Welcome to Art Class

Mrs. Sweeney

9th Year

Hello, I am Mrs. Sweeney and I am starting my 9th year of teaching. I am a mom of 3 kids that have been students at CHA. I have a bachelors degree in Art from UW Stout and a Masters in Teaching from Bethel University. I love teaching kids how to think creatively and develop critical thinking skills that help them live their faith out in the real world.

Assessments and Expectations

How will students be graded?

Attitude and effort are the starting point for assessments in the art room. If students come in and give a good effort with a good attitude they will do well. I will be using grading tools that will assess their learning in addition to their art projects. I think a many students might not like the way their projects turn out, but they have actually learned many things. Writing about their art, participating in peer critiques, focusing on the process of art making will be some of the ways that I will assess student learning.,

Visual note taking

Middle school students will use a notebook to practice a different way of taking notes called Visual Note-taking. It combines color, pictures and words which help some students remember information better.

Fine Arts Night

All students at Chapel Hill will participate in the Fine Arts Festival in the spring. Middle school students will be able to enter artwork, teach parents, friends and siblings an art form from their classroom and participate in judging art.
