Many Hands, One Mason!
December 2, 2018
Dear Mason Families,
Happy Sunday and Happy December! December marks the end of the first trimester of the school year for our elementary schools. Tuesday, report cards will be coming home with your child in their backpacks and it is a great opportunity to talk with your child about their education progress. When you have this conversation please consider their growth through a holistic view; your child is so much more than their report card. They are growing socially, emotionally and academically everyday and focusing on the strengths of your child is very important. I couldn't be more proud of all our learners. When talking to your child about their progress, please consider these tips:
1. Be enthusiastic about your child(ren)'s progress!
2. Discuss their areas of strength first
3. Calmly address the areas of concern and don't harp on them too much
4. Formulate a plan of improvement together; look for growth not immediate change
5. Follow up with the teacher if you need clarification on anything
6. Remember, the report card is only a snapshot of your child(ren) and they are so much more than their report card.
Thanks you for all your support and kindness,
Roy Bishop, Jr.

December PBIS Focus: Arrival and Departure
We are really striving to cut down on our tardies at Mason. Please be sure your child is doing their best to be on time and walk into the building by themselves. If your child comes in late, please make sure they check into the office so we can walk them to their classroom.
After school, students are reminded to find their family or walk home right after school for safety reasons. If you are playing on the playground after school, you must have a parent present at all times.
December LIM Focus:
Habit 4: Think Win-WIn
Think Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win. It’s not you or me, it’s both of us. It’s a belief that there are enough good things for everyone. It’s being able to be happy when good things happen to other people.
Dinner Conversations Talking Points:
Why is it important to have character while playing sports during recess?
What does it mean to never give up?
Fun Writing Opportunity for December:
Mr. Bishop is going to give 30 minutes of extra recess to anyone who is able to give him one or more paragraphs about the topics below: Please turn your writing assignment into the office before December 18th.
1. Name three reasons why you are lucky to have your current teacher.

The Cassidy and Damm Family would like us to thank the entire community for their support during this very difficult time. Below you will find a gofund me page for the family. The family is also working on figuring out what their immediate needs are at this time. Once that list is created, I will be sure to pass it on to the Mason community. We will also be having a spirt day this Friday, Dec. 7th and next Friday Dec. 21st. A portion of the proceeds from the spirit days will go to the Cassidy and Damm Family. More details on our up and coming spirit days coming soon.
