Principal's Corner
Hello Edison Families,
We are busy preparing for the 21-22 school year and our staff is very excited! This school year we welcome new staff and students! On Monday, August 23 from 3:00-7:00pm we will welcome all of our families to our CAT-apult Day. This will be a great opportunity for families to take care of the business of school such as lunch money, busing, PTO, etc. More importantly, families will receive their student’s schedule, walk the schedule, check out lockers, meet teachers and learn what to expect this school year! We are excited to see parents and students in our hallways, as we welcome them to the 21-22 school year!
As mentioned, we welcome new staff to Edison Middle School. Below is a list of teaching staff members for the 21-22 school year.
If you have questions or need anything prior to CAT-apult Day, please give us a call! We are happy to help. We will see you all very soon!

News from the Counseling Office
Counselors
Middle school students are characterized by rapid physical growth, curiosity about their world and an emerging self-identity. Middle school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe, respectful learning environment whereby young adolescents can maximize personal and academic achievement. Middle school counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic, career and social/emotional development. School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community.
Counselors at Edison follow their students throughout middle school.

Binders Needed… Every year we have students that are unable to purchase binders and try to unsuccessfully organize themselves in other ways. We try to help provide students with binders that cannot afford binders and need one.
We can always use more zipper binders to help our students in being more successful. If you would feel the urge to help some of our less fortunate students out, we would appreciate donations of binders to the Counseling Center. OTHER school supplies are also excepted including pens, pencils, folders, pencil pouches, notebooks, composition books, etc.
Edison's PTO
The PTO would like to welcome all of our Edison families back to school. We are excited for the 2021-22 school year and hope that you will take the opportunity to get involved with the Edison PTO. As a parent (or grandparent, aunt, uncle, guardian, etc) of an Edison student, you are automatically a member of the PTO and a valuable part of this organization of people who support our school.
Why do I need to get involved?
Family involvement at school is very rewarding and important to the success of your child. The PTO needs your voice and commitment in order to provide enriching events and opportunities to our students and to provide support for our amazing staff.
What does PTO do?
- assists with Catapult Day
- organizes fundraisers, like the Color Run, to purchase items for the school and support our staff and students
- sponsors school assemblies and student enrichment experiences, like the “Chill on the Hill” sledding trip
- sells Edison spiritwear
- provides and sets up meals for staff during parent teacher conferences
- helps with bookfair during parent teacher conferences
- provides meals/treats for staff appreciation week
Does it cost to join?
No! There are no membership fees. To raise funds PTO hosts the Edison Color Run in October and catalog sales in late fall. Your support and participation in these events make a HUGE difference for our school. You can also donate directly to the PTO at https://general-donations-to-the-pto.cheddarup.com or send cash or check to the main office in an envelope marked “Edison PTO”
When are the meetings?
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 15th at noon at Edison. We are hoping to have a zoom link for those who would like to attend virtually. Watch for an email or check our website for this link. Please join us! Your attendance is vital to ensure the PTO is meeting the needs of families and teachers of Edison Middle School.
How do I learn more?
You can contact us at edisonsiouxfalls@gmail.com or visit our website at https://edisonsf.org for the latest info, past meeting minutes and
budget information.

Student Council
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We are excited to welcome all our students back for an exciting year! My name is Erin Larson and my co-advisor is Brett Rayman. As student council advisors, we are excited to explore and facilitate student leadership. We are anxious to see and hear the impact our students can have on our school as well as our community. We believe that together, we are capable of anything, and we hope that this year, our student council will emulate this belief throughout the building. Our students are leaders, and we can’t wait to lead alongside them. Please be watching for more information and encourage your child to consider applying to be a student leader in the student council this year.

Athletic Information
Hello Edison Families,
I’m David Christian, some of you may know me as the Physical Education/ Health teacher and coach at Edison for the last 22 years. This year I will be serving as the coordinator of Athletics, as well as teach Pe/Health. I want to invite each and every one of our 7th and 8th graders to consider coming out for a school sponsored sport. Students need not worry about having played before. Middle school sports are a great way to experience news activities, meet new people, develop new skills, and work as a team. Our coaches will ask you to put forth your best effort, work hard, demonstrate good character in loss or victory, and be an example for others. Finally, those of you who participate in sports are known as “student athletes”. You will notice that the “student” comes before the “athlete”, so we need you to work just as hard on your school work as you would work in your particular sport. I hope to see many of you out for one of our school sports.
Checklist for participation
Physical by a medical provider ( 1 physical will cover both 7th and 8th grade)
Parent permission packet (filled out in infinite campus)
