Welcome Back Frontier Students & Staff!

On the morning of August 9th, anticipation and excitement filled the air as the first day of school was finally here! Students and staff were full of anticipation and curiosity! It was great to see all the returning and new faces! We're off to the start of a great 2018-19 school year!

Superintendent Message

Dear Frontier Staff, Family and Friends,

Welcome to another exciting school year at Frontier Schools. It is my pleasure to continue serving as Superintendent of Frontier Schools where we work towards continuous improvement and high standards. At Frontier, we will continue to provide an exceptional educational environment in which students can best learn and we will maintain a safe and friendly atmosphere that encourages students’ desire for knowledge and to help them express themselves effectively.

We will continue reaching out to our staff, families and community through our “Frontier News” newsletter. This newsletter will inform our entire Frontier family about what's happening in our schools, as well as provide updates on our programs and other school and district highlights. Another way to stay connected is to follow us on social media. Our Facebook and Twitter accounts are provided in this newsletter.

Thank you for your continued commitment to quality education for all of our students at Frontier Schools. I wish all our parents, students and staff members a wonderful school year.

New Principal Announcement: Frontier School of Excellence

Mr. Elyar Isgandarli has been an educator for 9 years. He spent the beginning of his career teaching computer and math at Harmony Public Schools for 2 years. In 2011, he joined the Frontier School System as a math teacher. After his first year at Frontier School of Excellence, he became Assistant Principal/College Counselor. He continued to teach math and PLTW (Project Lead The Way) Automation & Robotics for another 2 years while he was an administrator at FSE. During the 2017-18 school year, as the Director of College Transition, Mr. Isgandarli was in charge of improving college and career readiness practices in the district.

Mr. Elyar earned his Bachelor of Science in Drilling Engineering from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (Baku, Azerbaijan) in 2009. He later earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Currently, he has completed the coursework for Interdisciplinary PhD Program at UMKC, primary discipline being Educational Administration and secondary discipline being Curriculum & Instruction and plans to graduate in Summer, 2019.

Mr. Elyar is excited to begin his new role as Principal at Frontier School of Excellence.

Parent Academy - Saturday, September 15th!

Frontier Schools will be hosting their 1st Annual One Day Parent Academy on Saturday, September 15th from 9am-12pm at Frontier School of Innovation Middle gymnasium.

Parents and guardians are invited to participate in various sessions including, Healthy Eating Habits, Conscious Discipline at Home, Staying Involved at the Secondary Level, College Prep & Financial Aid, Drug & Alcohol Awareness, How to Help Your Child with Math Homework, etc.

UMKC Charter School Center 6th Annual Convocation

The 6th Annual UMKC Charter School Convocation was held on Friday, August 3rd at University Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. This year’s theme was: #Inspire. Teachers and staff attended various breakout and round-table discussions with topics including: Ed-Camp Style Sessions, Administrators Priorities, English Learner Session, Dyslexia, Special Education, Classroom Management Tips, Hot Topics in Math and ELA, DESE Updates, Operations Q/A and much more! All participants received a complimentary t-shirt with their schools' name with #Inspire. This was a positive event for teachers and administrators to create connections and learn new techniques that can be utilized during the 2018-19 school year.

District Professional Development

On August 2nd & 6th, Frontier Schools staff and administrators participated in two full days of Professional Development training to expand student learning alongside teacher growth. Professional Development provides teachers and administrators an opportunity to foster new skills and techniques that they can apply for the upcoming school year. This was another successful event, where guests were able to walk away with motivation and encouragement to inspire their students.

Student-Parent Orientation

Frontier Schools held their campus wide student-parent orientation on Tuesday, August 7th. More than 1,000 parents and students attended orientation to pick up class schedules, meet with teachers, visit classrooms and register for upcoming school activities. Orientation continues to be a great environment for new and returning students to get all the information they need to be successful for the upcoming school year!

New Gymnasium at Frontier School of Excellence!

Over the summer Frontier School of Excellence's new gymnasium was completed! The new 9,422 square feet gymnasium provides built in bleachers, an entry way, locker rooms, restrooms and support offices. The space will be used primarily for physical education classes during the school day, after school activities and team sport practices.

FSHS's Summer Solar Car Competition

Frontier STEM High School’s Solar Panthers competed in the 2018 Solar Car Challenge over summer break. This is the second summer the Solar Panthers have excitedly participated in this nationwide challenge, competing against 20 student teams from across the country. The Solar Panthers were the only team from the state of Missouri.

Each July, teams meet at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas, Texas to challenge and race their roadworthy cars on a 7-day journey, driving from Dallas, Texas to Palmdale, California.The Solar Car Challenge is a top project-based STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) initiative striving to motivate and inspire students who have in interest in Science, Engineering and Alternative Energy.

The Solar Panthers had a great time at competition and look forward to welcoming new members to the Solar Panther Team this school year! They will continue to improve their solar car as they eagerly await next summer’s competition in 2019.

New Technology at Frontier!

Frontier Schools purchased new technology for the 2018-19 school year!

  • 26 Staff laptops
  • 90 Classroom laptops
  • 5 Smartboards
  • 40 Classroom iPads

New technology is one means of enhancing students' learning with interactive lesson plans that increase student engagement, motivation and accelerated learning.

Back to School Nights

Parent Night at FSI Elementary

On August 29th, Frontier School of Innovation Elementary hosted a Back to School Parent Night for Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) and 1st grade. Parents took advantage of this opportunity to see the world their child inhabits and meet the people in charge. This was an instrumental way to begin to build a home - school connection.

Make sure to attend their second Back to School Parent Night for 2nd-3rd grade on September 4th at 5 pm - we hope to see you there!

Parent Bagel Breakfast at FSI Middle

On August 28th, Frontier School of Innovation Middle hosted a Back to School Bagel Breakfast for all Middle School parents! Parents and guardians were invited to meet with teachers and administrators, receive a tour of the school, learn about the exciting new school changes and connect with other middle school parents. This was a lively and engaging way for parents to get involved and be in the know about the upcoming school year!

Home Visits

Home visits are off to a great start for the 2018-19 school year at Frontier Schools.

With our diverse student body, home visits are paramount in bridging cultural gaps that might exist. These visits also provide opportunities for staff to understand their students better by visiting them in their home environments. The goal is to foster a true partnership – with both students and their families.

Frontier STEM High School Soccer Game

A new soccer season is underway for the Frontier STEM High School (FSHS) Panthers! Their first game was on August 28th against Pembroke Hill. It was a good first game even though it came to an early halt due to severe weather. Check out our game schedules and reminders on social media - we hope to see you there! Go Panthers!

1st Volleyball Game of the Season for FSHS

On August 29th, Frontier STEM High School's Volleyball team played their first game of the season against Central Academy of Excellence. The game was fierce and intense ending in an ultimate victory! Way to go ladies! Check out their upcoming games schedule on social media and come out and show your support! Go team!
