The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Thank you Teachers, Nurses, Bus Drivers, and Mothers
I want to take a few moments to thank our teachers for the countless acts of service and sacrifice that they consistently provide our students and each other. As I write this note, In the first hour of school being in session, I've witnessed a teacher escort a student to class in a wheelchair, pick up some dropped items in the hallway, redirect a student that was being unsafe in the hallway, and encourage a student to have a good day. This was all before anyone stepped a foot into a classroom. Our teachers are encouraging our students to take academic risks, overcome their fear or dislikes of a particular subject, make up missing assignments, and talking about their personal growth as a student. I also spoke to a teacher that told me that the alarm was set for 4:30 AM to get ahead of grading papers while another stayed late to recognize our students in a public forum. Simply put, our teachers (and teachers in general) are amazing! I challenge any of you to find a more demanding yet rewarding profession that positively impacts so many young people. Earlier this week, I shared a quote with our staff by Tom Rademacher that read, "Go ask three people who their favorite teacher in school was. Watch their eyes and listen to the way they talk about that teacher. You get to be that." I encourage you all to ask this question of your family and friends, or better yet, thank a teacher for their commitment to our children. They are the teachers of all professions!
Earlier this week, we also celebrated National School Nurse Day and were able to provide Nurse Julia and Nurse Ann with a small gift from our staff. They work with limited resources to help keep everyone safe, healthy, and able to fully function. This allows students and staff to fully focus on teaching and learning while in the classroom and we appreciate their support. They are invaluable to Warren Consolidated Schools and Carleton Middle School.
On Monday, we were able to celebrate our Bus Drivers with a light dessert (Baklava) that was delivered to them personally as they transported our students. Our drivers do such a great job being patient with adolescent behaviors, managing traffic, avoiding distracted drivers, and often running multiple routes in a day or week due to a severe shortage in drivers. The amazing thing? They always have a smile on their face, wave to staff members, and politely greet our students as they enter the bus or wish them well into the evening hours.
Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not include a short note about our mothers and motherly figures. So here is a shout out to all of the mothers, grandmothers, mother-in-laws, aunts, big sisters, and motherly figures. We wish you a safe, happy, and rewarding Mother's Day. Mothers hold a special place in all of our hearts due to their gentle guidance, motherly instinct, and constant wisdom. We hope you all enjoy your weekend and have an opportunity to be spoiled for one day.

Thank you to our Booster Club, Student Council, and our office secretaries (and heath aide) for providing meals for our staff this week. We were spoiled with breakfast, lunch, desserts, leftovers, and ROOM SERVICE throughout the week. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I know Mr. Kausch's pants are feeling a little tighter!
