The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the United States. To Jefferson, westward expansion was the key to the nation’s health


Lewis and Clark Expedition

The Lewis and Clark trail is a route across the United States commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806. It is part of the National Trails System of the United States of America. It extends for some 3,700 miles from Wood river,Illinois to Colombia River in Oregon.

What kinds of obstacles did the pioneers face on their journey?

Some obstacles the pioneers (Lewis and Clark Tribe) were many animal attacks. Some animals were the mountain lion,wolves , buffalo stampedes and most dangerous bear attacks. Also mountain ranges delayed their trip and also there were many routes and they had trouble choosing which one to take.

Settlers in the west

About 500,000 emigrants took the Oregon,Mormon, and California trail between 1830-1870 in order to get to the west.
