Inside the Idea Lab with Mrs. Stephens
This week in Idea Lab we continued working on our fairy tale projects utilizing many different Idea Lab materials. Due to the power outage which caused school to be closed on Monday, some grades will continue this project next week as well. Fourth and fifth grades finished their projects and presented their stories, problems, and solutions to their classmates. Second and third grades began presenting but will need one more day for everyone to finish up and have time to present their projects to their classmates. In kindergarten and first grade, we read several more fairy tales this week and discussed how they compared with our stories from last week. First grade especially enjoyed reading The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, which is a fanciful twist on last week’s traditional telling of The Three Little Pigs. The kindergarten class loved Tomie de Paola’s Strega Nona and her magic pasta pot, and did an especially wonderful job of listening this week, for which they received a class Way To Go.
Parents of kindergarteners and first graders, please help your students find their library books. Many students in these younger grades have not been able to take out new books in weeks due to having multiple overdue books.
Next week we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and begin our picture book brackets and voting for March Book Madness. You can see all of the contenders and vote as a family at home by visiting http://marchbookmadness.weebly.com/ . Happy Reading!
Important District Message
Given the recent news reports about unsolicited internet challenges by hackers, the district encourages parents & guardians to supervise the games their kids play and be extremely mindful of the videos they are watching on YouTube or other platforms. Ensure that the devices they have access to are restricted to age suitable content and encourage them to share with you anything they feel is scary or makes them feel uncomfortable.
PTC Newsflash
The next PTC meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, at 6:30pm in the Idea Lab (school library).
Lake Metroparks Visits our 4th & 5th Grades!!
Our fourth and fifth graders participated in an Iditarod Race during physical education class on Wednesday! Each group was tasked with moving their sled throughout a course and completing team challenges along the way.
The event was put on by Lake Metroparks with the focus on teamwork. The students did an amazing job and had a lot of fun.
A special THANKS to the PTC for funding this amazing opportunity for our students.
