Tech Tip of the Week
Potty Mouth Pete uses rude and inappropriate language on the Internet. Have you ever met someone like Potty-Mouth Pete? Why do we need to watch out for Potty-Mouth Pete on the Internet? What should you do if you run into a Potty-Mouth Pete on the Internet? Do not reply, turn off your device and always tell your parents, your guardian, or a trusted adult.

Update from our Clinic, Nurse Katy
- Medications at School: Cough drops, eye drops, inhalers, Tylenol, topical creams, etc. have to be kept in the clinic per GCISD policy. "All medication, whether prescription or nonprescription, must be kept in the nurse's office and administered by the nurse or another authorized district employee." If there is a medication that needs to be administered to your child during the school day, bring the medicine to me and I will have you sign the appropriate paperwork. Please feel free to call me or email me if you have any questions! Stay healthy!

GCISD DISTRICT FLYERS & INFORMATION
An Update for GCISD Bus Riders
In June 2017, Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 693, which requires all buses model year 2018 or newer, to be equipped with three-point seat belts for each passenger. The buses will have 76 seat belts in instances where students can ride three to a row, but can be adapted to seat two per row. While the Bill was signed into law, and the district must comply, there was no additional state funding allocated for this requirement.
In the 2016 Bond, voters approved the purchase of seven new buses. Although seat belts were not included in the original proposal, the buses purchased with bond funds will be equipped with three-point seat belts. These purchases will be spread over a four-year period. The first two buses with seat belts were recently received into the GCISD fleet and will begin service immediately.
Since GCISD is a Robin Hood district and estimates the payment to the State this year will be $44 million, there is no funding to purchase additional buses beyond the seven approved in the 2016 Bond.
Student safety is the number one priority in GCISD and the transportation department practices bus safety on a daily basis with riders. These practices will continue on all buses, regardless of the inclusion of seat belts.

FALL FESTIVAL CLASSROOM BASKET COORDINATORS NEEDED
An integral and fun part of our Fall Festival fundraiser is the Silent Auction. Every year each homeroom prepares a themed basket for the Silent Auction.
These baskets are a huge success in helping earn PTA funds. This money goes a long way towards funding our wonderful PTA programs. Because of our success in the past, we will again be featuring classroom baskets this year.
Classroom Basket Coordinators are needed for each classroom. This task involves collecting donations form the classroom, assembling an attractive display for the items, and delivering the basket to the Silent Auction Coordinator on November 3rd.
If you are interested in coordinating this effort for you classroom, click here to sign up.
Thank you for your assistance in making our Fall Festival a great success.

SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS
We hope you are as excited as we are for one of the year's favorite events...Fall Festival! Fall Festival is SATURDAY November 11th, from 1:00-5:00.
We need donations!
- If you own a business, or have connections with a local business, please consider making a donation. A unique way for your business to donate is to purchase an item for us to promote as a "Sponsored Item". Examples of past sponsored items include a WII or PlayStation.
- We also love personal donations! If you have an item you never use and want to donate it, let us know! For those with vacation homes, season tickets, etc. we would be so grateful if you considered donating those types of items as well.
- Another fun way that a parent, friend, or neighbor can donate is a "behind the scenes" look or VIP tour if they work in an industry that kids often would not get to see. Please reach out to you connections and see if they would be willing to help.
Other ideas or questions? Please reach out to Courtney Click at octsilentauction@gmail.com
