Vaughan Voice
Campus Parent Communication - February 5, 2021
I hope everyone had a great week! We have several upcoming events that we will continue to share, as well as some volunteer opportunities. For more information, please continue to keep up to date with my weekly newsletter, as well as the newsletter the PTA sends out.
We'd love for you to join us for the 2021 Allen Eagle Run! You may register up until the event, but if you register by tonight, you will pay $25 as opposed to $30. If you would prefer not to walk or run, you can choose the sleep-in option. :-). My boys and I plan to run the 5K. My oldest son, Gavin, is running to win, while I'm just trying to do my personal best. :-). Registration information is included below.
I hope everyone has a relaxing, enjoyable weekend!
Thank you,
Tonya Jasenof

Who is eligible to enroll in kindergarten? Texas State law requires a child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of that school year.
Pre-K students currently enrolled and attending Allen ISD at Rountree or Cheatham do not need to re-enroll for kindergarten.
The first day of school is scheduled for August 11, 2021

Instructional Delivery Model Selection Dates - Feb. 15-21
Allen ISD understands that families may want to change their instructional delivery model selection during the school year. Due to the scheduling complexities inherent in both At-Home Learning and In-Person Learning, parents are asked to make a commitment for at least one full nine-weeks grading period.
The chart below outlines the timeframe for making a change in the selected instructional delivery model prior to the start of each new grading period. Parents wishing to change their child’s participation in either At-Home Learning or In-Person Learning for the next nine-weeks grading period will need to complete the Commitment Form. Information will be sent to all parents about the process to request a change.
All changes will be effective on the first day of each new nine weeks grading period as listed below:
Please note that adjustments in instructional delivery model selections across the district may impact teacher assignments and student schedules.
Staff may need to shift to align with new instructional model choices. Therefore, even students who do not change instructional models could experience a change to their teacher(s), course availability or class schedule as teachers are assigned based on the numbers of students and course requests in each environment.
Damaged school issued computer or device?
Should your school-issued computer become damaged, please submit a help ticket here, https://allenisd.on.spiceworks.com/portal/tickets
We will then be able to get you a replacement while repairs are being made.
The school will then create an invoice and send it to you to pay for the damage, repairs, or a replacement through SchoolPay.
Should you have further questions about this process, please let us know.
Reminder - Steam Ambassador Tutoring - Grades 5 & 6
General Overview:
STEAM Ambassadors will provide flexible, one on one online peer tutoring services to students in grades 5-12 with homework help and science and math concept comprehension.
This tutoring is available for in-person AND virtual learners.
Goals:
Assist students with math and science concepts through virtual tutoring sessions.
Provide accessible student support that would typically be offered in a face to face setting but has become increasingly difficult as students learn away from campus.
Establish a virtual tutoring model that successfully addresses the diverse needs of learners across Allen ISD.
Who are the tutors?
Tutors are 10th-12th grade STEAM Ambassadors that excel in science and math.
STEAM Ambassadors were chosen by board members, administrators, and teachers during an extensive interview process last spring.
Tutors have completed classroom observations and were trained on best instructional practices.
Please visit the STEAM Ambassador website to learn more about the leadership program and tutoring
How to sign up:
**Parents and students may view available times for tutoring sessions and sign up for a session here**
Students can learn about the available tutors by viewing their bios.
Students will sign up for a session at least 24 hours in advance, providing details regarding material they would like to cover during the session. Additionally, graded quizzes/assignments, homework, etc. can be submitted here for the tutor to review in detail with the student (reworking missed questions, clarifying/reteaching when necessary)
Prior to the first tutoring session a parent/guardian permission slip will be submitted
Attention 5th Grade Families – 6th Grade Music Planning
Believe it or not, the time has come to start planning for 6th Grade Music! All Allen ISD 6th graders must choose a “specialized” music course for 6th grade. The choices we offer are Band, Choir and Orchestra. The students will watch the following informational video about 6th Grade Band and Orchestra in their music class. Their Music Teacher is available to answer questions about Choir.
Please sit down and discuss music options with your 5th grade student. Once you have come to a decision, please fill out the form located here.
This choice form is due by Friday, February 12th.
Should you have any questions, please contact the following people:
For Band Questions, contact Andrea Brooks - andrea.brooks@allenisd.org
For Orchestra Questions, contact Valerie Curry - valerie.curry@allenisd.org
For Choir Questions, contact your campus music teacher.

GREETINGS FROM THE NURSE!
I want to be proactive in helping your 6th grader prepare for 7th grade enrollment as deadlines will start to pop up much faster than you think!
Please pay close attention to the following information regarding vaccine requirements:
As soon as your student has had these immunizations please turn in the documentation to the Vaughan school nurse by hand, fax, or email. This will make the registration process for Middle School much easier.
- Individual notices will be sent out in January, February, March, April, and May reminding those students who still need to turn in proof of the above vaccines.
- After this initial notice, if you do not receive a notice, your student’s vaccines are current for 7th grade entry and no action is required.
If you do not currently have a family doctor or are unsure of where to take your student, you may consider the following option:
