West Madison Elementary School
It is hard to believe that August is almost here. It has been an amazing summer. We have had lots of activity going on here at West Madison. Our custodians and plant manager have been hard at work stripping and waxing floors, and getting everything in good working order, ready for the students and teachers to return. The classrooms on the upper level are being painted right now. I am excited for them to be finished so the teachers can begin coming up to work in their classrooms. The beginning of school is always a buzz of excitement.

We will be posting class lists on the Cafeteria Doors in the back of the school at 2:30 pm on August 1. You may come up and see who your child’s teacher is, prior to Open House. At Open House, please make sure you stop by to see our bus drivers in the Media Center. The routes will be very similar to what they have been in the past. Very soon there will be an updated route listing on our website.

Thank you PTA
Every summer, I meet with the PTA Board to determine a need and establish a goal for PTA to work towards for the upcoming year. This year, after our yearly playground equipment inspection, it was determine that the existing lower playground was not safe for our students. We determined that our goal for the 2016-17 school year would be new playground equipment for our students. They certainly deserve it.
Over the years, PTA has graciously helped our school with purchases that we would not be able to make, if it were not for your donations and hard work. We would like to thank you, West Madison PTA for all you have done for us over the years. For those who are new to West Madison, the PTA has helped purchase the following items:
Money has been given every year to teachers to help purchase materials for their classrooms at the beginning of the year.
Class sets of textbooks (Science and Social Students) in 5-6 grade
Marquee out front of the school
Smartboards, Lightfield Sound System and Document Camera
Curtains in the gym
Interactive Projectors for Kindergarten Classrooms
Accelerated Reader and STAR Online Program, yearly
Sound system for the gym
Additional Chromebooks for the Chromebook cart
PTA has also provided a scholarship for a student in need for the 6th grade trip to Space Camp as well as the 5th grade trip to Camp McDowell.
PTA has also provided money for various grade level presentations such as the Bats presentation for 2nd grade etc.
Community Outreach Event
We will be hosting a Community Outreach Event on Saturday, July 23 from 11-1. We will have food, music and fun. There will be school supplies available for those who need them. Please come join us for fun.
This fall we will be installing a new playground. It should be delivered and installed by the middle of August. We are in extreme need of a new playground. The existing playground is over 20 years old. On Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16 we will begin taking out the old playground. Please mark this on your schedule. The more hands we have the faster we will be able to get it removed. Please also offer your supports in other ways. We will be hosting several different fundraiser in order to pay for the playground.
We will be hosting curriculum nights again this year. They were such a success in previous years. I really encourage you to attend these grade level nights. The teachers will be presenting procedures as well as pertinent information about the curriculum for each grade level. This is also a time for you to ask questions. Please make plans to attend these meetings. If you are unable to come, we will streaming live each meeting and post on our website. The dates are posted on our website.
Parent Teacher Partnership PTA
I would like to encourage you to join the West Madison PTA. The PTA volunteers will be at Open House to answer any questions you may have. You may also purchase West Madison T-shirts at that time.
West Madison typically only has one major fundraiser per year. However this year we may have a few more in order to raise money for the new playground. We have also solicited our local senators and other local businesses for donations. We will have a fun run again this year to promote healthy exercise and at the same time raise money for our school. You will be finding out more about this in the weeks to come.
Ways to Help Our School
If you are looking for a way to help West Madison, the PTA will be doing a fundraiser in August. We also participate in the Amazon.com Associates program. For every dollar amount you spend, West Madison will get 4% and possibly more, depending on how much you spend. You must, however go through the Amazon.com link on our website in order for us to receive the percentage. Last year we made over $500 from this program. We would like to expand it even more. Please help us publicize this site. We would like to thank you so much for all you do to help our school. We are in partnership together.
Registration of New Students and Re-enrollment of Current Students

Also every student has to go through the re-enrollment process. All students much be re-enrolled by July 15. This is very important. Please click on the link below for further information.
