WIND ENERGY!
A GREEN ENERGY SOURCE
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is a source that keeps on coming. Renewable energy comes from natural resources. Some examples of renewable energy are sunlight, wind, rain, tides, biomass etc.The opposite of renewable energy is non-renewable energy, this type of energy means when it's gone it's gone. Non-renewable sources takes millions of years to form. Two non-renewable sources are fossil fuels and coal. Fossil fuels are used for the gas in your car. Non-renewable energy also pollutes the air, sometimes with harmful gases. such harmful gases could cause global warming and illness. This is why we need to use renewable energy.
What is it/ how does it work?
Wind energy is powered by wind turbines. Wind turbines are usually placed in a wind farms with a bunch of other wind turbines. Wind energy is renewable and green. How the wind is turned into electricity is like this. The wind blows the turbines and then the turbines take some of the wind's kinetic energy turning the central drive shaft. Then the energy goes to a gearbox and the gearbox turns the low-speed rotation into high-speed. After it turns into high-speed the generator takes it immediately and turns the energy into electricity. The anemometers provides the measurements of the speed and direction of the electricity, then with the measurements the turbines can be turned by a yaw motor to be rotated to oncoming wind to capture maximum energy.the electricity then goes through a cable in the pole of the turbine. The electricity then goes to a substation to let it go to nearby communities. Finally homes get green renewable energy and the wind carries on.
Advantages
There are a lot of advantages to having wind energy, but here are only some. Wind energy is Eco-friendly, renewable, reduces fossil fuels, and is one of the lower priced renewable energy sources. One important advantage is that it can be built on existing farms or ranches. This is important because instead of building something that might pollute on the farm or ranch build the thing that won't pollute. More advantages of wind energy is that it produces more than 2 million kilowatts of electricity each year, some people find wind farms an interesting landscape and finally they take up a little bit of land. These are some advantages.
Disivantages
Some people think differently of wind turbines and farms. Here are some of the disitvantages. Some people think that their city is beautiful and want to leave it in untouched. Even though wind energy when wind energy is used it is Eco-friendly, but when being built it produces some pollution. Other disitvantages is that wind could not come one day and then you coul not get electricity also it goes high in the air and kills birds and also goes far underground and harms underground habItats. The final disitvantage is that they are loud. The wind turbines are as loud as a car travelling 70 mph. These are most of the disitvantages.
