Word Study Focus: Compound Words
Reading
- working with our reading partner to identify the main idea

Social Studies: Unit 3 Parent Letter
Dear Grade 1 Families,
We are beginning our third social studies unit, “My Community Then and Now” this week. In this unit, students will learn about how people depend upon on people with specialized jobs. We will distinguish between the goods and services provided by the people with specialized jobs. We will also look at the tools we use and how they have changed our lives and made things easier.

Specialized Job: The surroundings where we live, work, and play
Good: A product you can have
Service: The action of helping or doing work for someone
Tools: Things we use to help us do things (computer, hammer, cart…)
