Principal's Message
Dear Henry Ford Families,
First of all, for all the moms who may be reading this today, Happy Mother's Day! We are excited to report that as we plan for the start of the 2021-2022 school year, we have been informed that all classes will be in person starting Wednesday, August 18, for five days a week. Thursdays will be our minimum days like the previous years before the pandemic. I am sharing this information with everyone now because many of you are early planners, and August will be upon us in three months.
Other exciting news is that Henry Ford will once again enjoy the company of school volunteers. We value the help that so many of you provide us here on campus in a variety of ways. As of this week in
May, volunteers may come to school following these guidelines:
All volunteers need to be vaccinated.
All volunteers will need to complete a Visitor's Wellness Form every time they plan to visit before they enter the campus.
All volunteers will be able to support throughout the School’s common areas, with the exception of classrooms.
New volunteers looking for opportunities will need to first work with the Department of Human Resources following this process.
We will continue to plan for as normal of a school year as possible. Unless we hear differently, all students, staff, and visitors will continue to follow the 4 Pillars as outlined in the Pandemic Recovery Framework for Schools, including:
3 feet physical distancing between students
6 feet physical distancing between adults and students
Avoid gatherings and mixing of groups
Wash hands often
Provide optional COVID-19 testing for staff
Also, Redwood City School District (RCSD) is planning stages of an in-person summer program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula. The program will run for four weeks, June 21 - July 16, 2021. A morning academic focus on hands-on science will re-engage students and build academic skills such as English language arts and mathematics through experiments and investigations. Afternoon activities, run by Boys and Girls Club Program youth leaders, will focus on arts-based and play-based whole-child socio-emotional experiences helping students reconnect with peers. If you are interested for your child, click here for additional information and how to sign up.
Additionally, our School is also in the planning stages to offer a summer program to help our students to continue to be motivated about reading and learning. The program will be referred to as the Summer Reading Club. It will take place in person in the School Library. About half a dozen or more of our teachers have signed up to meet with students once a week for about 90 minutes. Students will be able to check out books, work on fun projects, and learn or reinforce a particular concept. The program will start the week of June 21. Further information on the program and how to sign up will be forthcoming.
In the meantime, I want to make sure everyone is aware of our huge online fundraiser that is currently taking place to help our School. Please click on this link: charityauction.bid/HF2021
Enjoy the week!
