WEEKLY MESSAGE
Hello, Willard Families! Our students have been busily preparing for their holiday performance this Friday, under the direction of Mrs. Craig and Ms. Wittry. Our teachers have been supporting their efforts and our parents have been preparing decorations, baked goods, and helping with performance wear. It is a busy and exciting time for us on campus as the holiday buzz helps us all feel festive in our own way. TK/K performance will be at 8:15am and we will have a special parent program at 1:00pm. We do hope you are able to join us!

Wellness Corner
Self awareness and Social awareness are the important themes of instruction in our IB classrooms at this time of year. Research indicates that the better students know themselves, their individual strengths and preferences, the better they are able to relate to and navigate the world.
Examples of self awareness activities that students may engage in at any time in and outside of the classroom are daily journaling, doodling, noticing and expressing their moods at different times of day through singing, painting, dancing, and telling stories. Casual conversations with caring adults may address their natural curiosity about their growing and changing selves...Losing a tooth is a big deal to a first grader! As is a haircut.
They may also reflect on their behaviors by using the following thought stems:
-I feel...when...because...
-I will...when...does/says this...because...
Social awareness develops and becomes refined as children interact with their environment and become exposed to the world outside of their homes. We pass down to our child our values and behaviors by modeling, guiding, correcting, encouraging, and sharing through daily routines, traditions, and celebrations.
The holidays are a perfect opportunity to learn about diversity in our world and about the many different ways people around the world celebrate similar values. Respecting differences and striving to find common ground is a skill that will serve our children well.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, joyous holiday season.
Ms. Marineh
