The staff at Madonna are looking forward to your children returning to school!


We are ready to receive your children.


Welcome to the 2020-2021 school term. We are looking forward to reopening Madonna Catholic School and welcoming back our students and families.


We wanted to share with you what we are doing to keep your child safe and healthy at Madonna.


Due to COVID, school has changed. Safety of your child is our number one priority!


We have developed a number of protocols in 4 areas. (Enhanced Cleaning Protocols, Screening, Personal Protective Equipment, Cohorting)


We believe that the BEST PLACE for your child is in school in front of a teacher.


We are looking forward to your child's return. Your child will find JOY in returning to school!

Staggered Entry

Our schools reopen to students on September 1st, 2020. However, to allow teachers to explain the new routines and health and safety measures to your child, a smaller group of students will attend each day this week. Please note the staggered re-entry schedule for Grade 1 to Grade 4.


Grade 1 to Grade 4

  • September 1- 4 Staggered Entry

  • September 8 - First Day for all students

Use the letter of your child’s last name and their teacher's name to determine what ONE day your child comes to school for Sept. 1 to Sept.4. Your child will come on one day with a few of their classmates. Starting Sept 8 all students will attend.

Kindergarten Staggered Entry

  • Parents signed up in June for a 2 hr session between Sept 1 and Sept 4. Please check your email in June for confirmation. OR. Call Mrs. Roberts at the office with any question 780.467.7972.


Pathways Students Staggered Entry → The teacher will call you with the start date and details.


PUF Pathways 3 & 4 year olds (formerly Brighter Beginnings) Staggered Entry → September 21 st is your start date, you will be contacted early September for assessments.

On Your Child's First Day

Please bring your child’s labelled school supplies, their lunch, a filled and labelled water bottle this day. As per the Chief Medical Officer and Minister of Education’s direction, all grade four students must also come with a mask. We highly recommend that you send two masks per day.


Mask use for kindergarten to grade 3 students will continue to be optional but it is strongly encouraged.


Your child will be entering and exiting through their cohort doors which are labelled with their grade level. Students are to wait in their designated area outside for their teacher.


Please note that parents will wait outside the school in the designated area for their child's teachers. Parents will not becoming into the building. Your child's teacher will explain to you the area where you will be able to drop off and pick up your child before and after school.


This will be their cohort entrance and exit door for the year. Please see map further down.


Your child's teacher will be contacting you via email on or before August 31, with a very specific welcome and information

Drop-off, Entry and Exit Procedures

Students will enter the school via their designated entrance. Students are to wait outside at their classes designed colour marker.


Kindergarten - Entrance is E01 - PINK marker outside the entrance at 6 ft apart

Gr. 1 Students - Entrance is E03 - RED marker outside the entrance at 6 ft apart

Gr. 1/2 Students - Entrance is E03 - YELLOW marker outside the entrance at 6 ft

Gr. 2 Students - Entrance is E03 - BLUE marker outside the entrance - 6 ft apart

Gr. 3 Student Entrance is E08 - PURPLE marker outside the entrance at 6 ft apart.

PATHWAYS Students Entrance is E08 WHITE marker outside at 6 ft apart.

Gr. ¾ Entrance is E06 - GREEN marker outside at 6 ft apart

Gr. 4 Entrance is E06 - ORANGE marker outside at 6 ft apart.


All Wheel chair access is at the front entrance .E01 Your child will be greeted at the entrance by a staff member.


All Teacher’s will meet their class of students outside at the designated area every morning. Teachers will walk their class students out to buses at the end of the day.

Cohorts

Each class is a Cohort. They will only be with the students in their class. At recess they play only with their class.


When students arrive at school, they go directly to their entrance and line up to come in. The teacher will be there at 8:30. The first bell rings at 8:40.


Students will stay in their area of the school.

  • One wing of the school has all of the grade 1 and grade 2 students.

  • Kindergarten to grade 2 use the bathrooms → 119 and 116 - 3 students per bathroom at one time

  • 2nd wing of the school has all of the grade 3 and 4 students.

  • Grade 3, Grade 4, and Pathways students will use bathrooms 130 and 128 - 3 students per bathroom at one time

Water Fountains

The only water fountain that will be open is one that is touch-less and automatically fills a bottle. Your child must come to school with a water bottle every day.

Morning Recess

Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 1/2, and Grade 2 will go outside at 10:15 - 10:30. Each class has an area of the school yard to play in. The areas will rotate daily.


The teacher will supervise their class. Each class has their own playground equipment. The equipment is colour coded. In example, the grade 2's Playground equipment is blue and the grade 3's is purple.


Grade 3, Grade 3/4 and Grade 4 students will go outside at 10:30 - 10:45 .

All students will sanitize their hands before and after outdoor recess, and before and after eating.


Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3

12:00 - 12:30 go outside for lunch recess

  • Students only play with students in their class.

  • The playground area the students play in will rotate daily.

12:30 - 1:00 are inside to eat lunch.

  • Students eat lunch in their designated classrooms.

  • Teachers take their lunch break when students eat.

  • Admin/FWW/CRC will supervise students eating.

  • Students will sanitize their own desk after eating lunch and they will wash their hands.


Grade 3 and Grade 4 Students

12:00 - 12:30 inside to eat lunch.

  • Students eat lunch in their designated classrooms.

  • Teachers take their lunch break when students eat.

  • Admin/FWW/CRC will supervise students eating.


12:30 - 1:00 outside for lunch recess

  • Teachers supervise their own class outdoors in an assigned location.

  • Students only play with students in their class.

  • The playground area the students play in will rotate daily.

  • Each class has their own set of colour coded playground equipment.

  • Physical Education - One teacher ( Mrs. Lindbeck) is teaching Physical Education and she is responsible for the cleaning and rotation of all equipment.

  • The sports equipment will be cleaned after each use.

Classroom Teachers are teaching their own music. Music appreciation.

We have great digital resources called Music Play that all teachers can use.

Teachers will teach an entire class a FLEX option. Students will go as a class cohort to the FLEX option.

Wellness Considerations

Parents please put the AHS -- COVID Self Assessment on your FRIDGE. Please print off the last page of the MCS Parent Letter August 18 pdf below.


  • Parents MUST do the COVID-Self Assessment on their children each day prior to their child coming to school.

  • Students that are attending school declares to us that the parent did the COVID-Self Assessment and their child was not showing any symptoms.

  • 2 - isolation rooms are set up in the office area if a child is not feeling well. The student will be masked and the parent will be called to pick up their child immediately within the hour.

  • PARENTS MUST Update Emergency contact information in PowerSchool.

  • Parents must designate an emergency contact who will be able to immediately pick up the students if parents/guardians are unable to do so.

  • If your children have allergies and any pre-existing conditions, please have them do a COVID test so you can determine their base-line.

  • If a student or staff member contract COVID we will be following the very specific guidelines from AHS.

Enhanced Cleaning

  • All high touch areas of the school will be cleaned 4 times a day
  • Anyone entering the school will sanitize as soon as they enter and leave the school.
  • Frequent hand washing and hygiene protocols
  • VICTORY Cleaning system. Hospital grade sanitizing system, that is used like a mist, will be done weekly on surfaces. This kills COVID and the Nora Virus. Victory is dedicated to providing the tools that make our hospitals, schools, and communities safer.

Please Note the Letter Sent to Parents and Guardians on August 18

The 3rd page of the letter has the COVID 19 Self Assessment. Please print it off and put it on your fridge. You must to a COVID 19 Self Assessment on your children every day, before sending them to school.

Your Child's TEACHER

Please note your child's teacher will be contacting your through EMAIL by August 31st, with specific messages for you and your child.

Medical Support Plans and EPI PENS

Does your child have medical information or a condition the school should be aware of or require medication?


If so please complete a B2.) Medical Status Update/Request for Medical Treatment Plan located in your Parent Portal under SchoolEngage Student Forms on the left. Then choose Student and a new Medical Form will be available for you to complete. This form is required annually.


Please note: the submission of a Medical Form is required prior to medication being sent to the school.
