Rights granted to the author of a work upon creation.

Licenses

Open Source

Software containing/ distributed through source code allowing it to be modified. Linux remains a great example of Open Source.

Public Domain

Isn’t affected by copyright law generally if the copyright expired or if it was donated to public domain. An example of this would be Hunt the Wumpus.

All Rights Reserved

The licensee is allowed only to do what is specified in the EULA. Most any purchased software is under an All Rights Reserved license.

Freeware

Copyrighted work that can be obtained legally for free. Things like Dwarf Fortress, Google Chrome and similar.

Shareware

Trial version of copyrighted work. Norton is an example of such.
