Activities to keep your mind active during summer vacation.
Parents commonly worry that their children will forget what they learned during the school year over summer vacation. Here are some activities that you can utilize to keep your child's brain academically active while spending some quality time together.
Summer Fun while Learning!
Keep Reading!1. Join a summer reading program. There are many programs available to make summer reading fun. Check some of these out! *York County Library Summer Reading Program *Start with a Book/Reading Rockets Summer Reading On-line Resource *PBS.org-Summer Reading Program & Summer Math 2. Make a summer scrapbook. Take pictures and write a few sentences about the experience. 3. Get a Pen pal from school to keep in touch with or write thank you notes to people who have done something special for you. | Math in the Everyday1. Have your child keep track of his/her sports stats throughout the summer. (Batting average, save percentage, goals/assists, etc... 2. Get Cooking! Follow some favorite recipes to require your child to incorporate measuring and adjusting ingredient amounts. 3. Make and fly paper airplanes! There are many templates on-line that will challenge the mind. If you feel adventurous, have a contest! 4. Plan a garden! Map out the perimeter, area, volume of soil. | Get Creative and Use your Brain Power!1. Road trip planning! Map out directions to a summer destination. 2. Have your child plan an activity day for the family. Set a budget and have them do the rest. (Find activity, supplies needed, menu, etc...) 3. Have your child create a scavenger hunt for the family. 4. While growing a garden, research plant needs; how much water, sunlight, etc... Also, chart growth and results of their efforts. |
