Symmes annual fall clothing drive time!
Please donate your gently used FALL and WINTER clothing. All sizes- infant through adult would be greatly appreciated. Winter coats and shoes would be wonderful too! There is a collection bin placed in the school lobby labeled “clothing drive”, please feel free to place your clothing donations in the tote. Should you want to donate but may not have the time to drop off to the school, feel free to contact me and I can pick up your donations.
The clothes and shoes donations are used to help our school community. Nothing is more special than helping families in need.
We will be collecting clothes from Monday, October 9th through Friday, October 27th. Should you be interested in helping to sort and bag clothes, contact LaToya Goshen at goshenfamily3@yahoo.com.
Thank you for making a difference for our students!!!!!!!!!
CONFERENCES ARE COMING!
Dates for conferences are: Oct. 26 (from 4 - 8 pm), 27 (NO SCHOOL for students on Oct. 27) and Nov. 2, from 4 - 8 pm.
LOST AND FOUND ITEMS
The Aviation Station is rolling......
With the help of our PTOs and local business sponsors, Sycamore Community Schools recently rolled out a “first-of-its kind” classroom on wheels aimed at getting kids excited about science and math! The Sycamore STEAM Aviation Station provides our K-6 students the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) opportunities at school under the guidance of our science leaders and the help of classroom volunteers. Equipped with high tech items such as touch screens, Raspberry Pi computers, and virtual reality equipment, as well as low tech materials such as Keva planks and Makedo tools, activities have been designed to explicitly teach design thinking and collaboration through grade-level, standards-based challenges.
Another exciting component to this new classroom on wheels is our Homework Assistance outreach. Four days a week (M-TH), we travel to local neighborhoods after school (4pm-6pm) to provide homework help on the Aviation Station after school.
Mondays 4:00-6:00 p.m.: Fields Ertel Townhomes
Tuesdays 4:00-6:00 p.m.: Hazelwood Community Center
Wednesdays 4:00-6:00 p.m.: Sycamore Terrace
Thursdays 4:00-6:00 p.m.: Blue Ash Kohl’s parking lot (Plainfield & Hunt Roads)
Our students bring their homework assignments with them as they enjoy a light snack and assistance from an adult or student helper. Once they complete their homework, students are provided with the opportunity to participate in STEAM challenges of their choice on the Aviation Station in small groups. Helpers provide guidance and direction as needed.
We are looking for parent volunteers to assist us with this outreach endeavor. A certified Sycamore staff member will always be present to answer any specific questions. You can sign up here to assist at any location. SignUpGenius-Aviation Station Homework Assistance

YEARBOOK PICTURES
Do you want your student to be in the yearbook?
Do you have photos from Symmes activities and events that you could share?
We need as many candid photos as we can get in order to make sure the 2017-18 yearbook represents our entire school! Please email photos that you would like to be considered for the yearbook to Kim Hueil. (khueil@icloud.com) Please include the name of the event, grade level, or classroom teacher represented in the photo.
Pictures need to be of the highest quality and lowest compression settings in order to be accepted by the Lifetouch online program.
