Volleyball Positions

By: Joel Walsh

There are six positions in volleyball. I will focus on three of them:

  1. Setter
  • They mainly set up the hitters
  • They are the ones used for the second contact
  • If the setter can not reach the ball they must get help
  • If they make first contact, they should say, "Setter out!"

2. Blocker

  • They are usually very tall
  • They play in the middle
  • They block every hit
  • Will also form double block with outside hitters
3. Libero

  • They play in the back row
  • They can move around
  • They wear a different jersey than the rest of their team
  • They do rolling and digging to keep the ball in play
