MCSD ED TECH NEWS
Keeping you up to date on the latest educational technology!
Let's Collaborate!
Welcome Back Staff! I am so excited to be working with you this school year. For those of you who don't know me, I am Liz Lubeskie, a 14 year veteran here at MCSD. Most recently, I worked to pilot hybrid education in our school district and have helped to train teachers on various other school district initiatives. I would love to collaborate with you, create amazing technology-rich lessons, model technology integration, or help you implement a new teaching tool! You name it, I am game! This newsletter will be sent out periodically with new teaching tools, classroom ideas, and a calendar of upcoming technology events.

SCOOL's TOOLS
For those of you that are more tech savvy, here are some new tools that you may want to check out!
1. ActivelyLearn.com
Engage Your Students in Reading Scaffolding, peer learning, and assessment come
together inside a text, exactly when students need help and motivation. You can take one of their pieces of text or download your own, add a discussion thread, quiz
questions, video, or even graphics. Students can mark up the text and take notes, they
can even print them for further use.
2. Apps and web-based services like Socrative, Formative, Edulastic, and PollEverywhere provide teachers with instant data. A teacher can literally pose a question out loud to the class, ask students to type their answers on their mobile phone, and hit send. Instantly, the teacher knows which students understand, which don’t, and create quick interventions on the fly.
3. Explore.org shares live webcams of animals in their natural habitat from all over the globe for you to watch with students. The children find these fascinating; we watch, we discuss, and then we brainstorm the key words we can use in our writing. It is easy to use, has great images and children are enthralled! It will be a writing favorite.
4. Alphablocks is a great way to make learning the alphabet fun. Children watch as the letters in the alphabet tell stories and make words using phonics. Available to watch free on You Tube, each mini-program lasts five minutes and focuses on a particular letter, word or sound. The children remember the lively letters of the alphabet when it comes to their own reading. For example, when P and H hold hands, they make the sounds "F". I would absolutely recommend it to other younger classrooms.
