Mrs. Summers' Newsletter

Its Been a Great Week!

This week we finished our Junior Great Books stories. We had some great discussions about bravery. We also finished our Making a Difference Project. In math the second graders are finishing up our chapter on geometry.

Things to Look Forward to Next Week!

After break, we will be starting our economics unit. This will be a unit that is cross-curriculum. It will be our reading and social studies. This will encompass the entire nine weeks. Are any of you small business owners? We would love to have some more guest speakers and make this unit as authentic as possible. The second graders will be reviewing geometry on Tuesday and testing on Wednesday.

Reminders

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I am so thankful to be at Smoky Row and be your child's teacher. I hope that all of you have time to relax and enjoy time with your child over break. Thank you again and Merry Christmas!

Erika and Brownie Troop 1407 would like to say thank you for all of the book donations she received. It is great to know that other kids will receive a better chance to read good books!

Please look for your child's Token Report to come home today. Please sign it and return it in the Rocket Folder on Tuesday.

If your child has any exciting news to share - winner of a competition, getting a certain color belt in Tae-Kwon-Do, etc., please send me a picture. I would love to feature them in my newsletter. :)

The students do not return to school until Tuesday, January 5.

Report cards will be sent out January 8.

Great News from the Carmel Public Library

As we prepare for Winter Break, I wanted to inform you of an opportunity for our students to access more than 500 eBooks free of charge through StarWalk Kids Media, a digital library provider.

From December 23, 2015 through January 3, 2016, anyone with internet access will be able to read StarWalk Kids’ great titles for free. Students, families and educators may start reading by visiting starwalkkids.com/popup beginning December 23, using any device that connects to the internet, including desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

In addition, I also want to remind you that our students have access to eBooks through the Carmel Clay Public Library all year long with a library card.
