Week of November 24, 2014
A Note From Dr. Johnston
I hope that you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving. Jim Rohn was quoted as saying we should "only rest long enough to gather strength." It is my hope that your family is able to find time to rest, relax and reflect on the many things that we each have to be thankful for in our lives.
Enjoy this week's Falcon Focus. We will see you on Monday, December 1st.

After School Intervention
Part of the role of a teacher is to evaluate the progress a student is making toward a learning goal. By analyzing the progress toward the target, a teacher can determine if a student has been successful; if there is a need for additional instruction or practice; or if it is a matter of the student not providing the opportunity for the teacher to measure his or her learning. Simply put, a student must do the work before a teacher can determine what additional help, if any, is needed.
One of the expectations at NFHS is that all students will give their best effort the first time - this includes students completing the work assigned on-time and complete. Beginning December 3rd, failure to meet this expectation will result in a student being assigned by their teacher to an After School Intervention (ASI) on either Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 4:00-5:30pm. The assigning teacher(s) will submit the work that needs to be completed and student will work to finish assignment(s) during this time. Students will have some choice on the day they attend. Students will be required to stay for the entire time of the ASI, regardless of when they finish the work. If you have not had an opportunity to view the video on ASI, please click the following link.
We look forward to the benefits ASI will bring to our students and campus.
That First Bad Haircut
Please help a yearbook student out
I share this with you because we have a student who is planning a spread in the yearbook that will showcase our students and their first bad haircut. Come on parents...it's another great way to embarass your kiddo and you know you live for those moments (at least my mom seemed to).
If you are willing to share this time in your child's life, Katherine needs:
- A picture of the bad haircut
- When did this haircut occur?
- Was there a reason: a dare, was it for a camp, did the guard fall off the blade at the salon (yes I've seen this happen), or was it just "hip," I use that word lightly, at the time
- Email this information to firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for your help!
High School Musical was AMAZING!!!
In fact, the show was submitted by Theatre Director Jessica Kent to Dallas Summer Musical Theatre Awards contest. This means that 6 members of DSM were here to judge the performance on Friday night and "they were BEYOND impressed with our students. They couldn’t believe they were all high school kids AND they couldn’t believe that our high school band played live! They said it sounded like a track it was so good."
If your kiddo was part of this production, give them an extra pat on the back for a job WELL DONE!!!!
9th grade All-Region Band
This past Saturday, 20 students from North Forney High School traveled to Rockwall Heath High School to compete with other musicians from Forney, Mesquite, Terrell, Royse City, Garland, Rockwall, and Richardson ISD’s. We had 6 students earn a spot in the 9th grade region band!

Varsity Tennis places at Kaufman Fall Festival
The Falcons finished third out of 9 teams in the Kaufman Tournament. Cedar Hill won the tournament and Kaufman finished 2nd. NF finished ahead of WM and FHS from our district.
- Savannah Mincey finished 2nd in girls singles
- Oscar Melgar and Fausto Mendez finished 2nd in boys doubles
- Brendan Richardson finished 4th in boys singles.
The future is bright because with the exception of only 2 senior girls (who will be missed) the entire squad is back for 20152016 season.
As always, if you have questions please contact your student's counselor.

Upcoming College Visits
The following colleges will be on campus during lunches:
- University of North Texas on December 9th
- Stephen F. Austin on December 19th
Come pick up some information about these awesome Texas colleges.
Has your child received an acceptance letter from a college or university? Please have your child bring this letter to the counseling office, so that we may make a copy. The counselors will soon begin making their “college wall” of all students accepted to a college or university for next fall.
It's never too early...
