It is almost time for students to vote for their favorite Mark Twain or Truman Readers Award nominee! Eligible students will have read four books from the current Mark Twain list or four books from the current Truman list (not two from each). If you think your child qualifies, please send them to the library to see me as soon as possible. Also, the Readers Award finalists for the 2016-2017 school year have been announced. We have recently received a shipment of these books in the library and are working to get them processed and on the shelves. Check out the list and see if there is something that might be of interest to your child.
As always, feel free to contact me at tschenewerk@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.

6th grade band is working on sheet music for our concert still. Both 6th grade groups are are working on some concert music that will feature the trombones. They are very excited about this endeavor. This piece of sheet music is focusing a lot on different accidentals, articulations and other concepts that students will need to know during their musical career. Please plan to attend the Parade of Bands concert that will take place on Tuesday March 1 in the High School gym! Thank you for selling your parade of bands meal tickets, we really appreciate the continued support! Also, thank you to everyone who donated items or money towards the 6th grade basket that will be auctioned off at the concert!

I am very excited that the students have come back ready to work, and our ensemble sound is rockin'! Make sure that your students are practicing their solo music and band music at home. The parade of bands concert will be on March 1 in the High School gym. Music Festival will take place on Friday March 4. I have just received schedule information and will be sending detailed information home as soon as I sort through it and make a schedule. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members are always welcome to attend and support their students. The full band performance will be held in the student center on the 4th floor at 4:06 PM. The students will need to bring money to eat lunch there, or will need to pack a lunch as lunch will not be provided for them. Also, they will need to wear their khakis, polos and BLACK shoes!!!! This is very important that we all look uniform. Please let me know if you need any help with any of that. Students will need to have a ride home from the middle school when we return. You may pick your child up straight from the festival, but you will need to sign them out with me or Ms. Neudecker!

The Hornet Singers are continuing to grow as musicians as we build our sight-reading skills and expand our vocabulary...in Latin! We've been learning a lot and are very excited for Central Methodist University's Music Festival this Friday, March 4th. Students were given packets and electronic copies were also sent to students and parents. Permission slips are due back Wednesday, March 2nd.
Solo and small ensemble lessons have gone well with a great Vocal Showcase last Tuesday, February 23rd. Thanks to parents and students for being so great about rescheduling. Such great things happening in Hornet Singers!
Harmony Hornets are at it in full force incorporating our many new members this semester. This ensemble will be traveling to Columbia for a music festival at Battle High School on March 11th. Dr. Moebes and Miss Lehman are both very proud of all their hard work already!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
Hornet Pride Choir (7th grade) is doing great work in preparation for our upcoming contest! Our contest repertoire: "Gloria Deo!", and " Drinking Gourd", is challenging, but we are making excellent progress. Singers are working hard, and having a great time! Recordings that may be helpful for practice are posted on our Google Classroom.
6th grade Arts Alive is almost over, and we're sharing our musical artist presentations this week! Students selected musicians to research and teach their classmates about. We have heard projects about Conway Twitty, Selena Gomez, One Direction, 21 Pilots, and Fetty Wap, just to name a few. Students have been doing great work!
7th grade Arts Alive are sharing their Music Genre projects. Students selected a genre of popular music, as well as two subgenres, to research. This project includes profiles of 6 musicians or groups. These presentations have been informative, and fun. We've had the opportunity to hear lots of popular music!
As we near the end of this Arts Alive rotation, I want to let you know that this has been a wonderful group of young people. I've enjoyed getting to know each of them, and hope we get to work together again soon!
Please feel free to contact me any time! bmoebes@fulton58.org.

The 8th grade students enrolled in Computer Applications continued with their goal setting along with choosing strategies to help them reach their goals. This is a year long process, increasing 3 wpm each month. For February our benchmark goal is 31 wpm with 90% accuracy for the month.
7th and 8th grade Computer Applications students began their video production unit using photographs and video clips of various FMS activities throughout the school year. We are currently making trailers using templates in imovie and will move on to making videos next. This project will take a few weeks.
7th and 8th grade "wheel" students completed an activity on "grouping" using Microsoft Word and practiced their keyboarding as well.
6th grade students learned the entire 30 key QWERTY keyboard this week and kicked up! Ask your 6th graders to show you their stuff! (QWERTYUIOPASDFGHJKL;ZXCVBNM,./) They are also progressing well with their actual keyboarding too! Have your child login at home and show you their progress. Their goal for this past week was 13 wpm with 90% accuracy. We ended the week with a fun Kahoots.it preassessment on Computer Parts. Next week the 6th graders will learn about computers parts and their functions, along with continuing with their keyboarding practice.
All computer students will participate in an "Hour of Code, which is a STEM activity. This week our coding challenge was StarWars at https://studio.code.org.
