Colonial Day

Dear Parents,

We will relive the Colonial period on Friday, November 18th. Many of our volunteering parents for the event are preparing stations with activities that the students will rotate through. Students should come dressed like the colonials of America during the 1700s. We will discuss with the children what colonial people wore and will make some of the following suggestions. Feel free to "google" images of The Thirteen Colonies or American Colonists.

Girls:

  • Wear long skirt or dress (could be one of mom’s)
  • Tie an Apron on
  • Wear leather or dark shoes
  • Wrap a shawl around your shoulders

Boys:

  • Wear pants that come just below the knees (could be baseball or football pants, etc.)
  • Wear long socks
  • Wear leather or dark shoes (can make foil covered buckles out of cardboard to attach to shoes)
  • Wear a white shirt (could be a father’s, etc.)

We do not expect you to buy anything – that is totally up to you. However, students are expected to participate and show “attempt” to look colonial in some way, even if it’s only buckles on the shoes, for example. You could make a costume, borrow a costume from a former Skaggs student, or even check a thrift store.

Colonial Day Volunteers

We are in desperate need of a few more volunteers for Colonial Day! No experience is necessary, but you will need a completed background check. Please plan ahead if you need one. The stations and tasks are not difficult and we have instructions for you if you are able to donate your time. Please contact Tiffany Wilson at tiffany.wilson@pisd.edu to volunteer. Thank you volunteers!
