Tuesday = Band, Choir and some SSR. Wednesday = remaining SSR, labs, and Ag. Thursday= return visits for kids that bring money! If you would like to see the book fair flyer and learn more, find the link on the SMS Community homepage.
2018-2019 Course Selection Forms
6th and 7th Graders - Read on.
Elective course request forms for 2018-2019 will be distributed to all 6th and 7th graders during homeroom on Monday. These forms need to be completed and returned to the SMS office by Monday, May 21st. Don't miss this chance to CHOOSE your elective. Here is a rundown of options for next fall.
Current sixth graders will choose between Band, Choir, SSR, and Learning Lab for 7th grade. These are the same choices that we have this year. If you have not previously been in choir, you can join now. If you have never been in band before, you can join after an audition from a director. Any student can take SSR. Only IEP students can select Learning Lab.
Current seventh graders have more options for electives next fall. Besides Band, Choir, SSR, and Learning Lab, members of the Class of 2023 have two additional choices:
- Introduction to Agriculture: This is a two-semester high school credit course that serves as the foundation to the agriculture pathway at SHS. Grades will appear on the SHS transcript and two high school credits can be earned.
- Computer Science for Innovators and Makers: This is a one-semester course in which students learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development, and discovering computer science concepts and skills by creating personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects. This is a new SMS elective. Band and choir students interested in computer science coursework can initiate that pathway at SHS and stay in band or choir at SMS.
If you have any questions about the elective program for 2018-2019, contact Miss Nass.
8th Grade Dance Friday, May 18th
Eighth graders are exactly one week away from visiting the Northern Lights at the SMS 8th grade dance on Friday, May 18th! The dance will be held in the SMS Great Room from 6:30-9:00 PM. Parents and staff will chaperone. Admission is $3. The SMS Student Council is sponsoring the dance and will be giving each attendee a free class photo taken that night.
Attire can range from school-clothes to dressier attire such as party dresses, dress pants, and ties! Limousines and formal wear are discouraged because this is not a prom. Prom is a high school event!
Admission is limited to SMS students that attend school all day on May 18th. Students can lose their eligibility if they are suspended or on social restriction any time the week of May 14-18. Eighth graders would also lose eligibility if they earn a detention on the day of the dance. Unlike school-wide dances, 8th graders will be allowed to carry and use cell phones during the dance.
