cheese/tuna frenchee
By Kaytlen Thomas
History
It consisted of two slices of American cheese, slathered with mayo and placed between three slices of white bread, dipped into batter and deep-fried. The outside coating was crunchy, and the cheese was melted (and would easily burn the corners of your mouth as you bit into it, so watch out!)
How it got its name
Recipes for the most cherished of these, the Cheese Frenchie, a battered, deep fried cheese sandwich with a crunchy cornflake exterior, are all over the internet. It may have been modeled on the somewhat similar Croque Monsieur sandwich of France, explaining the name Frenchie.
