Mrs. Moore's Class Weekly Update
May 16-20, 2016
MATH
Unit 7 works a lot with multiplying unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by mixed numbers. We do this in a variety of different capacities, but mostly in the form of word problems. Students are encouraged to reread the problems and make sure they know what information is given and what questions they are trying to answer. The word problems we are doing are multi-step word problems so they require a lot of steps to solve.
LITERACY
We are still working on our poetry unit exploring different types of poetry. The students are writing their own poetry collection to turn into a Young Author's Day book. We've also been reading and discussing our newest Scholastic Storyworks.
SCIENCE/ SOCIAL STUDIES
In Science, we started our Life Cycles unit. We began with studying the concept of Living vs. Non-Living and animal mouth adaptations. We have moved into the human body and different body systems.
In Social Studies, we've begun our Regions project. The students are working in groups in their designated region to determine the perfect location for an amusement park that their group will create. They will be researching the perfect location in their region using climate/weather, people/culture, landforms, economy, and natural resources as a guide. In the end, groups will present their projects to a group of judges who will determine which groups had the best arguments. It's a great project and the kids are very excited!
