Technology in the Classroom
You Can Do IT!!!
Apps in the Classroom
There are over 1.5 million apps currently available in the Apple App Store, averaging about 949 new apps a day, according to Pocket Gamer. In addition, education is the second most popular category of applications that are distributed to users. With so many applications, users can easily become overwhelmed with everything available to them.
Suggestions to help not get overwhelmed:
- Determine what goals you want to accomplish with the use of applications. For example, I want to use an application that takes PEMDAS to a higher level. I want students to be able to determine the correct order of operations when given a solution. Another example, I want students to be able to bring a story to life with puppets telling the story.
- Get to know 2 - 3 applications and how your students can use them in the classroom to accomplish your goals. Understand the app to where you can help the students if they run into problems as they use them. If you try to learn too many apps then you will easily overwhelm yourself and not understand how to use them.

TEA Star Chart
Some schools have already started to complete their STAR Charts and others have upcoming trainings with me so I can walk through the questions and answer any that might come up.
State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
Standard I. All teachers use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.
Standard II. All teachers identify task requirements, apply search strategies and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Standard III. All teachers use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Standard IV. All teachers communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.
Standard V. All teachers know how to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum
Remember, the STAR Chart is a survey tool which every certified teacher and librarian must complete every year. The survey allows your school, the district, and the state to evaluate the technology in the district and which areas need additional attention for the upcoming school year. The tool also allows the state to see how close the state and school districts are towards meeting goals in the Long Range Technology Plan.

Eno Board Training Videos
The videos cover:
Part 1: First 7 buttons on the icon strip
Part 2: Drawing Tools
Part 3: Save and Printer Options
Part 4: Spotlight Tool, Settings and Calibration
The videos will appear if you are at home or watching them at school before 8:00AM or after 5:00PM since they are YouTube videos. If you try to watch the videos during the blocked period, within the district, then you will only be able to see a grayed out box with a sad face.
