Newtons Laws of Motion

PBL

Challenge Brief

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), just six states have laws that mandate seat belt use on school buses. The persistent national debate on the use of seat belt in school buses is intense. Both sides of the school bus seat belt debate take passionate stances, with those against seat belts on school buses citing cost and the relative safety of school buses versus other motor vehicles as reasons to not mandate seat belts. Those who support the use of seat belts on school buses argue that the use of these restraints will, indeed, protect children from fatal injuries. While both sides of the debate present compelling arguments for or against the use of seat belts on school buses, the ultimate goal, one assumes, is to protect children from fatal injuries and casualties related to school bus accidents.

YOUR MISSION

Your mission is to develop and submit a proposal to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that supports the use of seat belts on school buses.
