Ways to Improve Infertility
By Alyssa Miller
What is it?
Scientists and doctors today are using recombinant technology to help women today with infertility. One of the drugs doctors use is called Gonal-F(R). It was the first recombinant follicle- stimulating hormone to be approved in the world. During this process, DNA from one organism is combined or transplanted with a different organism. Many couples that undergo the medication, micro surgery and other reproductive technologies have a greater chance at getting pregnant. A lot of women today used this technique because of its "high degree of purity and consistency and with exceptional standards of quality control." This treatment is better than others because the needle to inject the medicine goes right under the skin, unlike other treatments where there are intramuscular injections.
Do the Pros Weigh out the Cons?
Like all different medicines, the drugs used to treat infertility does have side effects. Some of them may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Both men and women use this to help with their issue of not being able to reproduce. One of the cons of recombinant technology is that it can be costly. Urinary FSH is much more cheaper then recombinant FSH. But, the outcomes of the recombinant treatment greatly differ from the urinary one.

How does it Affect People?
These treatments are man-made and don't really have any negative affect on the environment. The positive affects is that they do help many couples get pregnant and produce babies. Many women and men around the world living with infertility know that it is an upsetting struggle but knowing that there is treatments that can help people produce kids really lifts peoples spirits up. Hopefully in the future researchers and scientists can come up with more advanced and easier ways to help infertile coupled around the world.
