Reading Tips for Families

For this week, we want to emphasize the importance of reading to/with your child. If your child is not a reader yet, spend some time reading to them as it will help get them into the act of reading. If they are already reading, the following activity is something that my parents did with me that worked really well! Pick out some books that align with their interests and that you feel they would be able to read to you. Give them the chance to pick a book from what you have selected for them and spend some time listening to them reading. If they come to a word that they are struggling with, have them try to sound it out to you. If they still can’t get the word, tell them how it is said and then have them practice saying it to you. Spending even 10 minutes a day reading together makes a significant impact in your child’s development as a reader!

The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross blood program!

Download the Red Cross Blood Donor App on the App Store, Google Play or text BLOODAPP to 90999. Schedule appointments, view your blood type and results of your mini-physical, and track your donations.
