Halloween in Costa Rica
Halloween is not a big tradition in Costa Rica. Nonetheless, some of our students still went trick or treating. A few said they were not very impressed with the costumes in Costa Rica, but loved the candy. A couple of students wrote in their journals about how they had mixed feelings about celebrating Halloween away from home; they were missing their real family, but had fun experiencing this holiday with their host families. Even so, I think it was a good experience overall.
Children's Museum
Today we visited the Children's Museum in downtown San Jose. This building used to be a prison, but was converted into a museum. The kids love that part of the museum's background. There are 40 areas in the museum, but we didn't have time to see them all. We visited the Egypt room, the airplane station, the supermarket, the firefighters' and police officers' station, the dinosaur exhibit, solar system exhibit, earth room, Costa Rican history exhibit, the rainforest, human body room, teeth and mouth room, and the television station. We had a lot of fun and the bus ride home was very quiet!
Journals
A few of our kiddos are getting a bit lazy with their journaling. Please remind your child about this requirement of the exchange program. They are supposed to write eight sentences daily about their experience. This is a large part of their grade while they're away, but is also a wonderful keepsake for them when they get home.
