My Digital Footprint
Gaby Gonzalez
What is a Digital Footprint?
A digital footprint is what you leave behind on the internet from tweets and videos to pictures and accounts. It is important to leave behind a positive digital footprint because it effects your possibility of getting a job, gives people a look into what you're like from searching you up, etc.
Why does it matter?
Your digital footprint is important because someone (like an employer) who doesn’t know you can search you up on Google and use whatever pops up as a window into seeing how you might be like. This can either affect you positively or negatively.
My Digital Footprint
Use?
I use LinkedIn to put myself out there in the job world.
Positive or Negative?
LinkedIn has a positive impact on me
- It helps me put myself out there
- It shows what I'm interested in
Helpful?
It is definitely helpful to have an account because
- It leads to different opportunities
- The "connections" feature helps as well because it can lead to meeting new future employers or people
Blogger
Use?
I used Blogger to keep track of my 20% project for class about hacking. I used it to talk about problems my partner and I faced, helpful resources I found, etc.
Positive or Negative?
My 20% Project blog has a positive impact on me
- People who see it will see I work well with others in the "Communication" blog post
- They will also see that I'm determined to get things done because of posts like "Progress and Challenges"
Helpful?
My blogger is helpful because
- It helps my some of my positive qualities show through my posts
Use?
I use my Twitter mainly to keep track with my favorite celebrities, retweet funny things, and follow other people like viners. I try to keep my name off my account and try not to follow any friends to keep myself anonymous because I like to keep my social media away from people from school.
Positive or Negative?
My personal Twitter has a negative effect on me
- It does not show the professional side of me
- Who I follow, what I retweet and favorite, along with my personal info (username, profile picture, background picture) aren't very professional or exemplary
Helpful?
My personal Twitter is not helpful because
- It gives off a bad impression to those who see it
What can i do to improve my digital footprint?
LinkedInTwitter
- I can keep up with my account (adding things through my years in high school) and use it to get jobs.
- I can personalize it way more than what I have right now along with updating my profile picture to something more professional.
- I can clean up my account by deleting some of the tweets I retweeted.
- I should think about who I follow and what it says about me to someone who doesn't know me.
- I can change my username and profile picture to something more professional as well.
Most Important Thing I Learned About Digital Footprints
Anything you put online will always have some sort of effect on you and can always be found as well. Even after you delete a post, screenshots could have been taken. Nothing is ever lost and it's always best to put the best version of yourself out there on the internet.
