Kathy Swartz (Presenter)

Kathy studied psychobiology at UCLA. During her time there she worked on a team providing behavioral consulting to autistic children. The program was so successful, after graduation, with the supervision of her professor, the program branched out to provide behavioral consulting to parents and teachers in the Los Angeles School District. Working with teachers and parents Kathy learned first -hand the challenges many children faced both in and out of the classroom.

Kathy worked last year in WAVA assessment with the rollout of the Smarter Balance Testing in Washington State. This provided Kathy the opportunity to not only work with students and staff administering tests, but also meet and interact with parents and hear their stories of why this program has worked so well for them.

Kathy started in August on the Family Academic Support Team as the Family Resource Coordinator. Years of working on boards of non-profits and being actively involved in community resources combined with her behavioral education background make this a perfect job for Kathy.

Denise Roberts (Co-presenter)

This is Denise's second year as a WAVA employee and third year as a WAVA learning coach. She has three children; second grade, fourth grade, and sixth grade. Her oldest is a WAVA student. She graduated with a Master's degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University and has 10 years of experience working in early childhood education and mental health.
