SAVE THE DATE - CENSUS DAY 2020 IS APRIL 1, 2020
2020 CENSUS INFORMATION
The Census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
Save the Date: April 1, 2020, is National Census Day. We are asking students and staff to wear yellow attire or accessories with jeans in recognition of National Census Day.
EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITMENT
Is your eighth-grader interested in attending Galena Park I.S.D.'s Career and Technical (CTE) Early College High School (ECHS)? Our ECHS will be hosting recruitment meetings for parents and students on March 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.
Every Friday at CMS is COLLEGE DAY!
STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO WEAR COLLEGE SHIRTS AND JACKETS EVERY FRIDAY!
WE TEACH & MODEL CHARACTER EDUCATION AT CMS
Character Education for March is Respect and Gratitude
Teaching respect and gratitude to your teen is something that is learned, relearned, and practiced over time. A teen’s gratitude and respect can worsen if not taught correctly, and result in ungrateful and disrespectful adults.
Below are a few tips to help in the journey of respect and gratefulness lessons at home.
1. Be The Example
· Ask yourself: When is the last time I said thank you to my child?
2. Practice Observance
· Make sure your teen realizes things come at a cost, not just money wise, but the time, effort, and the energy put into it.
3. Talk & Listen
· If your child is disrespectful or rude, talk about what happened once things are calm.
· Talk about how it could have been handled differently
· Listen to your child and hear what was going on
· This is also a perfect time to have your child describe what could have been done differently
4. Set Limits
· Be clear with your kids about what you expect of them
· Set Realistic Expectations for Your Child’s Behavior
· Ensure your teen understands what is expected of them and know what the consequences will be if they don’t meet those expectations
5. Follow Through
· If your teen meets your goals, give them credit, but if they don’t, follow through on whatever consequences you’ve set up for them.
As an adult, respecting authority is still used and practiced. Gratitude, as an adult, fosters happiness and satisfaction with jobs, friends, families, and lives. Each of these tasks effort and time, but the invested time in teaching respect and gratitude will help to produce successful contributors to society.
“Of all the characteristics needed for both a happy and morally decent life, none surpasses gratitude. Grateful people are happier, and grateful people are more morally decent.”
Dennis Prager
