Sayre Weekly Update
October 21, 2022
BACKGROUND SCENE - Sayre Media Center
The Sayre Media Center underwent some changes this summer including the addition of a flexible meeting/classroom space compliments of the 2020 School Bond. This work resulted in the need to reconfigure some existing library shelving and the Sayre PTO, in a true example of the parent-school education partnership at its finest, provided more than 150 feet of new book shelving to house Sayre's outstanding elementary collection kept up to date with both school and PTO funding. Please be sure to build the habit to read the book your student has the opportunity to check out each week to or with your student.

We can't wait to see all our Sharks wearing pink and supporting Cancer Awareness!
SAYRE COSTUME PARADE - FAMILIES WELCOME
WHO: Sayre Staff and Students
WHAT: Costume Parade
WHERE: The Costume Parade Route is the Sayre Playground Walking Track
WHEN: Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Families are invited to attend! Please park and join us around the back of the building and help form our parade route along the outside of our playground walking track.
Families who are joining their students for the parade will not be permitted into the building. Only volunteers with a volunteer badge will be permitted to enter the building. This includes for bathroom use! If someone (besides a Sayre student) needs to use the restroom, they will have to use a porta-potty near the parking lot.
At Sayre parking spaces are very limited. Please remember to be respectful of our neighbors if you decide to park along the street and please do not block mailboxes or driveways. Give yourself enough time to park, walk to the school, and head to the playground. Please let your child know if you are going to be here to watch the parade this helps eliminate some of the confusion with your student if family is going to be there or not able to attend.
After the parade concludes you may sign your student our of school if you wish. The sign out process will be similar to signing out after the Walk-A-Thon. Sign out with your student's teacher, students will return to the building to gather their belongings, our Safeties Squad, Dismissal Champions, and volunteers will help students reunite with parents at the front side of the school building.
Our parking lot will need to be cleared out by 2:50 pm so we may conduct dismissal.
If you have questions or concerns please reach out to your student's teacher.
SAYRE TRUNK or TREAT!
Dress up in your cutest, most festive, or scariest costumes and come trick or treat with other Sayre families in the Millennium Middle School bus look parking lot. Trunk or Treating will begin at 6:00 pm and will end at 7:30 pm. Kids will also be able to get candy from the South Lyon Fire Department and South Lyon Police who will be handing out candy and have their police/fire vehicles on hand.
*To trick or treat you do NOT need to sign up... just show up!*
This year Snowy Owl Shaved Ice Co will be on site selling donuts and hot chocolate! Check out the menus below.
Please note, we will NOT have access to bathrooms and will not be allowed inside the middle school at all! You will have access to port-a-potties near the track.
Want to decorate your car and hand out candy? We still have spots available! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4BAAAA28AAFB6-sayre8

BIRTHDAY TREATS
If your student wants to share their birthday celebration at school with their classmates they are encouraged to bring in a book to donate to their classroom library or the media center or bring in non-edible items (pencils, erasers, stickers) to share with their classmates.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION:
Additionally, during the school day the path from Oak Creek Village onto school grounds is not open to Public Use. Visitors need to report directly to the Main Entrance or office to explain their school related business or to schedule an appointment with the appropriate staff member. Students and staff have learned as part of modern security protocol to identify those individuals on school grounds who are not known to them or clearly identifiable as safe to be in or at school by wearing a badge and safety vest as a potential threat.
SMART WATCHES/GIZMOS
These devices are not permitted at school. Please review the Sayre Student and Family handbook. These devices are not allowed because they are communication devices with audio and pictures capability which can be a distraction from the learning process and create community concerns regarding the violation of privacy when worn/used in the community bathrooms.

SLCS DISTRICT UPDATE 10-20-2022
SAYRE COMMUNICATION:
The Sayre Elementary Principal is Mrs. Susan Maurus - mauruss@slcs.us - during the school year, whenever possible, her office sends a weekly email of information which often includes a video.
Please add these four contacts to your phone/email list of contacts:
1, Sayre Elementary Office, Phone: 1-248-573-8500, Email #1: sayre@slcs.us,
2. SLCS - Email: donotreply@slcs.us
3. Sayre Attendance - please call 248-573-8475 - to report your student(s) absence/late arrival/early departure. Please include your student’s first and last name with the spelling of the last name along with the reason for absence from school. The office is busy in the morning so please call this number to leave a recorded message with any attendance related information - absences, late arrival, early dismissal - prior to 9:30AM.
If you are emailing your student's teacher in advance about any planned absence (appointments, vacation, days off, holiday) then please also copy the Sayre Office at sayre@slcs.us.
