Dear John Wetten Families,
This is an exciting next few days as the anticipation for the first day of school is upon us! If that excitement is combined with worry about coming back to John Wetten, we understand and will help to support your child, especially as they navigate the building the first few days. These are common emotions to have during such a challenging time.
This newsletter is to let you know some of the important procedures and policies for the return of full time in-person learning. In keeping with Oregon Department of Education, Oregon Health Authority, and Gladstone School District guidelines, these procedures and policies are put in place to keep students and staff as safe as possible during this increase of COVID cases in Oregon.
If you have any questions or clarifications, please do not hesitate to reach out.
In Partnership,
Michael Clutter

Arrival
For students NOT arriving by bus:
Students being dropped off or walking to school will enter through the front main entrance. If students arrive before 7:50am, they will be guided by a staff member to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast at JWE or to the Library (1st and 2nd graders), music room (3rd grade), or the gym (4th and 5th graders) if they are NOT eating breakfast. Please remember that, at this time, parents/guardians are not allowed in the building. We will have multiple staff members outside to help get every student to where they need to be.
For students arriving by bus:
Students arriving by bus will be guided to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast at JWE or line up outside under the cover by grade level to enter the building at 7:50am if they are NOT eating breakfast. Staff members will assist in getting every student to where they need to be.
Breakfast and Lunch
Students will be eating in the cafeteria. The cafeteria will have continuous airflow and ventilation with 100% outside air being pulled in.
Students will be taking their masks off in the cafeteria to eat.
When students are eating in the cafeteria we will adhere to the following guidelines:
- students will be spaced at least 3ft. apart with no more than 4 at a table
- students will be assigned a table and a seat by grade level
Dismissal
For students being picked up:
Students will be picked at the JWE main entrance in front of the building. If you are picking up by car, please pull into the turnaround up to the curb and we will escort your student to you.
If you are walking to pickup your student, we will have a line for parents along the front of the building. Once you get to the front of the line we will escort your student to you. This line is to help lessen a large group from forming in front of the building.
Especially at the beginning of the year we ask for your patience in picking up your student. It will take some time to get reacquainted with who each student and parent is. We will work to make the process in picking up your child as quickly and efficiently as possible, and we will make adjustments as necessary.
For students taking the bus and walking home:
Students who take the bus home will be guided to their bus at dismissal. Students who walk home will be guided outside to walk home.
