NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 3 | 4 AUGUST 2021
The Year 5 students attended a two day camp at Point Walter Recreation Centre in Bicton. We had lots of fun and participated in some exciting activities, which included team building games, archery and flying fox. On top of that we shared a lot of laughs and fun times in the stormy weather including a movie night and dance parties! Our teachers are so proud of us and we can’t wait for year 6 camp!
Mary MacKillop – Feast Day August 8
Most loving God,
We thank you for the example of St Mary MacKillop,
who in her living of the Gospel witnessed to the human dignity of each person.
She faced life’s challenges with faith and courage.
We pray through her intercession for all of our needs
We make this prayer through Jesus the Lord.
Amen
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 5 Camp
The Year 5 students had a wonderful time on camp last week availing themselves of many experiences and learning opportunities. I would like to thank Ms Challis and Ms Smith for arranging such a well-organised camp. I thank both these teachers, and Mr Croxford, Mr McPhail, Mrs Thomas, Ms Arfuso and Mrs Fernandez for attending camp too. Without these staff willing to give up time away from their own families to attend camp, we would not be able to offer this excursion.
Land at 6 Wade Court to be cordoned off
We are in the process of negotiating the purchase of land at 6 Wade Court, from the City of Wanneroo. This is the vacant land that surrounds our basketball courts. The City of Wanneroo will be cordoning off this land from access by the general public and will be putting netting along our basketball fence line on the 23rd of August. The reason for this is that asbestos fragments have been found in the soil on this land and the City of Wanneroo will be remediating the land during the October school holidays.
Our Moral Purpose
Our Moral Purpose at OLOM is that we are ‘a collaborative Christ-centred community that educates, inspires and nurtures the whole child to allow them to achieve their unique potential’.
We would like to thank all parents and carers who helped us develop this moral purpose statement by providing feedback on what is important to you in the education of your child at our school. We are proud of this statement as it succinctly speaks to the dedication and passion of our wonderful teachers.
Disco
One of the most exciting events on our school calendar for the children, is our annual school disco. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered their time to assist on the night. Without parent support, the P&F would be unable to run these popular events.
Combined class assemblies
In 2021, during the Covid pandemic, classes in the same year group presented a single assembly item. The teachers and students enjoyed collaborating on an assembly item. We have decided to continue with this format as it also provides additional in class literacy time on Fridays. Every year level prepares a class Mass and the whole school will be attending the first and last class Mass of each term. Our parents and carers are always most welcome to our Masses and assemblies.
As we travel this term together let us all be aware of the power of our words and with the help of the Holy Spirit, let us strive each day to build one another up, support each other and use the power that God has given us through our words to speak good into the lives of everyone around us.
God bless you all.

Census night
The Australian census on 10 August 2021 will provide a snapshot of who Australians are and what is important to us. The census is a key tool that government uses to determine how organisations, schools, church ministries and community groups are prioritised, funded and empowered to best operate in our State.
If your faith is important to you or if you identify with Christian values, please use your voice in the Australian census when asked your religion.
This is an important opportunity to demonstrate the significance of faith-based families in our West Australian community and will support endeavours to secure equitable access to opportunities and resources.
