Buy One, Get One FREE Book Fair
Just in time for summer reading, Serna will be hosting a Buy One, Get One FREE Book Fair May 23-26. Stock up on books for the summer! All proceeds will benefit Serna students. Click here for more information including a preview of available books.
Nonfiction Shelf Labels
The nonfiction section of the library is now sporting subject area labels so browsers can more easily locate books of interest. Major categories of the Dewey Decimal Classification System are labeled with a picture and words to indicate the location of books on these topics. The new signs help students be more independent library users and they also help the librarian know that we need more shark books!
fourth graders prepare for battle
The annual Battle of the Books is coming soon! 4th graders who were interested in competing were asked to complete a qualification test on April 25th. This test required the students to identify quotes from the 16 books specifically chosen for this year. The students with the top 4 scores in each class made the team. The campus battle will take place on May 15th and the wining team will advance to the district level competition on May 22nd. Click here for more information on the Battle of the Books.
April is National Poetry Month
Students in grades 2-4 created book spine poems in honor of National Poetry Month. See below for examples of their creations.
