Letter from the Principal
Greetings Black Bear Families,
I hope this message finds all our students and families well. Enjoy some snowy time outside together during this holiday weekend. We are thankful that all of our students are now signed up for either 100% online or hybrid learning as of this week. We are now planning all the details for students returning to school for hybrid and continuing distance learning. Remember, all students are continuing distance learning with current teachers until March 19th.
Our planning follows state guidance on health and safety rules. We are using this guidance to effectively plan, in addition to what we already know about how to best teach students in-person and online through distance learning. Our teams are finalizing plans for a safe return to school. We will start hybrid in-person learning with our preschool, kindergarten and first grade students on March 29th, and then start grades 2-5 on April 5th. Our 100% online students will continue current distance learning for the remainder of the year. Below is the timeline for what to expect over the next several weeks. We will notify all families who their child’s teacher will be for the remainder of the year on March 1st. These class assignments will all start on March 29th for all grades. Our goal is still to keep as many students with their current teacher as possible.
Week of Feb. 16-19: Finalize student placements for students who moved from 100% online to hybrid and hybrid to 100% online. Staffing will also be worked out during this week.
Week of Feb. 22-26: Safety and health protocols training for staff begins for hybrid in-person instruction. We will communicate with families regularly each week for what a day in the life of students will look like while arriving at school, being at school and leaving from school each day.
Week of March 1-5: Notify parents of class placements. Continue to train staff on safety and health protocols. Continue to update families for returning to school.
Please look for more information from our office and your child’s teacher as we are now starting to put all the puzzle pieces together for successfully returning in-person hybrid students to school and continuing distance learning. Please contact your child’s teacher, our office, or me for any needs while we work through final planning.
Warm Regards,
Mr. Kingery, Principal

Elementary Quarter 2 Report Cards
Quarter 2 report cards are now available electronically through ParentVUE. For instructions to access your child’s, please use the link provided here… ParentVUE Access
The Quarter 2 report card, based on the Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) experience that teachers and students are engaged in, reflects a focus and priority on reporting progress toward meeting specific standards in Reading and Math.
Not all reading and math standards listed on the report card are reported on each quarter. However, all standards are taught over the course of the school year, maintaining the same standards reporting practice as in previous years.
Other content areas, including science, social studies, integration of writing, music, physical education, and health are being taught throughout the instructional weeks. However, teachers may give specific feedback in the comment section of these subject areas, rather than a 1-4 grading designation.
An additional NG (No Grade) designation has been included based on CDL.
If students were not turning in assignments, and/or teachers worked to attempt to assess the student using an alternative method (observation, checklist, etc), the NG (No Grade) mark might then be used to indicate that there is not enough evidence to grade the student. This may be further clarified in the notes or comment section.
In Physical Education (PE) classes students are working on staying active through movement activities and games as well as developing movement skills through practice.
In music classes, students are developing music literacy and skills through singing, meaningful movement, intentional play, and creating.
