YONDR Cell Phone Policy
There will be a new policy on cell phones for all secondary schools in Fairfield County this year. Students will be allowed to have phones on campus, however, they will be secured and will not be available for use during instructional time. Students will be assigned a YONDR pouch, a storage case with a locking mechanism, to store their phones in for the duration of the class period. The classroom teacher will unlock each pouch at the end of class, and students will have access to their phones until they reach the next teacher’s class. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in the following consequences:
1st Offense: 1-Day OSS
2nd Offense: 3-Days OSS
3rd Offense: Recommendation for change of placement to GOA
Missing Assignment “1” Policy
Beginning this school year, Fairfield Middle School will implement the “1” Policy. When a student misses an assignment, teachers will be required to place a “1” in the gradebook for that particular assignment. The “1” serves as a placeholder to help both teachers and students remember that there is an assignment that needs to be made up. The “1” also immediately has a negative effect on the student’s grade. If students fail to make up any assignments, The “1” will become a “0”.
FMS Tardy Policy
Students who are tardy to class are to report to ISS. The ISS Instructor will provide each student with a pass and record the tardy.
1st Tardy – Recorded & warning.
2nd Tardy – Recorded & warning
3rd Tardy – Recorded, warning and parental contact
4th Tardy – Meeting with grade level administrator & parent contact.
When students are tardy to class period 5 times in a nine-week period,The ISS instructor will complete a major referral and students will receive administrative disciplinary action as follows:
5th Tardy – Lunch detention assigned by an administrator to be served through grade-level team & parent contact by administrator.
6th Tardy – In School Suspension for class period & parent contact by administrator.
7th Tardy – In School Suspension for the entire day & parent contact by administrator.

Winter Break is a great time to help your child see their gifts/talents and dream a little. As you enter this magical time of year, take the time to dream with your child about their future. Write down their answers to these questions each year.
What are you good at?
What is hard or challenging for you?
What do you like to do for fun?
What are your favorite activities?
Who do you look up to and admire and why?
What have you done that makes you proud?
What are your favorite subjects?
If you could do one job for a day, what would you do?

Students who have the highest points will also be eligible to attend the end of the event to the Fireflies Minor League Baseball Game. Two top readers (one from the 7th and 8th grade) at the end of the year will receive a Kindle Fire. Keep reading and taking quizzes Griffins!!
Are you interested in sharing your love of books with others? If so, join the Fairfield Middle Media Center Book Club. Students will have the opportunity to read and discuss the books selected with each other. If you are interested, please let a member of the Media Center Staff know.
Book of the Month:
The Last, Last Day of Summer by Lamar Giles
Otto and Sheed are the local sleuths in their zany Virginia town, masters of unraveling mischief using their unmatched powers of deduction. And as the summer winds down and the first day of school looms, the boys are craving just a little bit more time for fun, even as they bicker over what kind of fun they want to have. That is, until a mysterious man appears with a camera that literally freezes time. Now, with the help of some very strange people and even stranger creatures, Otto and Sheed will have to put aside their differences to save their town--and each other--before time stops for good.
