Chromebook Reviews
I have heard several Whitney students saying that they are asking for Chromebooks this holiday season. The "Old Dog" is certainly no expert in technology. But I do know that providing your student with the same technology he/she will be using at school is a great idea. This link may help with your shopping. Chromebook Reviews for Families

"RAISING CYBER-CONSCIOUS KIDS"
The Strongsville City Schools Guidance Department is sponsoring a presentation that is valuable to all parents of school-age children. As the title above suggests, parents and school staff need to work together to help develop "cyber-consciousness". The internet has reshaped our lives. Information gathering and communication are dramatically enhanced. But there are dangers. As the adults who shape the lives of SCS students, we need to make sure we know about those dangers, and know what to look for. This one-hour presentation will help your understand how to help keep you student(s) safe. But space is limited. Click here to view information about how to sign up.
District News:
Parent Technology Survey - Please help us serve you and your family better by taking this short technology survey for parents. We value your feedback and thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
PARCC Assessment Family Score Reports Sent Home - The Ohio Department of Education has recently released the 2014-15 family score reports for the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) tests that students took last spring. For students in grades 3-6, these reports are being sent home with students TODAY, Friday, December 18th.
Parent Representatives Needed on K-5 Committee - As a district, we are considering implementing trimesters in K-5 starting in the 2016-17 school year, while keeping grades 6-12 on a quarterly reporting schedule. Based on the favorable results of an initial survey sent to staff, we are looking to create a committee to further explore this idea. Meetings would begin after the first of the year and be held at 4:00 p.m. on an as needed basis, based on the work of the group. We are looking for K-5 parents to be a part of this committee. If you are interested in being a member of this committee, please click here to submit your interest.
Your Student's Reading Level - When you go online to view your student's second quarter grade card, you will notice some new information. Based on "Guided Reading" assessments and progress monitoring, the district will report the reading level for all K-5 students. You should see one of these three descriptors; At Level, Above Level, Below Level. If you have questions about your student's reading level, please contact his/her teacher.
