Have no Doubt, Just Stand Out!
Counting By 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan (realistic fiction)
You should always be yourself, even if that means that you are different.
"I'm about to start a new school. I'm an only child. I'm adopted. And I'm different. As in strange. But I know it and that takes the edge off. At least for me."
It is better to be yourself, because even if the people at your school or work don't appreciate you for who you are, there is always going to be people out there in the world who do. You just have to wait 'till you meet them. In this book the main character, Willow Chance (her quote is above) knows that she is different and strange. She accepts that. Because she knows that she is strange and she acknowledges it she doesn't care what other kids think about her or that she has no friends. Willow will never change her personality and her love of gardening just so she can be like someone else; and neither should you.
