Note From the Principal
Dear Martin Families,
It has been a great Fall semester to date. Our biggest initiative, the distribution and use of 1:1 Chromebooks, has been a huge success! We have seen huge gains in the percent of students and staff that use AISD's online platform, BLEND. The use of this valuable technology by our students and teachers is a #GameChanger. I'm proud of the work that we have done and can't wait to see what our Eagles do next.
Below are a few reminders related to this initiative. Please note that our teachers have professional development on Monday, November 11th. I also wanted to make you aware that we recently discovered a correlation between charging cell phones on the Chromebooks and disabled batteries. Please ensure that your student is not using the Chromebook to charge any other device as this could damage the Chromebook's battery. Lastly, I am asking for your help with cell phone usage during the school day. We have seen an increase of students using their cell phones during the school day. Students are easily distracted by their cell phones and create disruptions in learning. Please ensure that you review cell phone expectations with your student.
Thank You,
Monica de la Garza-Conness
Principal of Martin Middle School

Charging Phone on Chromebooks
PLEASE DO NOT CHARGE YOUR PHONE ON YOUR CHROMEBOOK.
Charging a phone from a Chromebook has a strong chance of disabling the battery. Simply turning it back on will not fix this. It will need to be sent off for warranty repairs.
Martin Cell Phone Policy
*Students are allowed to possess cell phones on campus.
*Cell phones must be turned off (not on vibrate) at 8:15 and may not be turned on again until 3:30.
*Cell phones that ring or vibrate in the classroom/on school property will be confiscated by the teacher/administrator and turned into the administration. Parents will be notified by the administration that the phone was confiscated and the circumstances surrounding the confiscation.
*Confiscated cell phones are placed in the vault and held until 2 full school days have elapsed from the date of confiscation.
*Parents/guardians may retrieve the cell phone from the administration after the holding period for an administrative fee of $15.00. (These fees are used in the student activity fund.)
*Unclaimed cell phones will be turned into the District Police Department after 30 days.
