Another year in the BOOKS!!!
We had another fantastic year in the library! The library is still on the rotation schedule, and I am glad to have the extra time with each class...although I do admit that fifty minutes of kinder friends at the beginning of the year can be a lifetime. Donna Kleikamp, assistant to the stars, keeps us all on schedule and organized. We still struggle with helping the kids remember to bring their books on their color days, but we have finally convinced them that we want them in the library for new books when the need them! A HUGE step! We circulated over 40,000 items, managed two book fairs, had our annual Storybook Pumpkin Patch, a couple of author skyping sessions, the fantastic storyteller, DC Cornish, Monster Week, MakerSpace and Tinkering activities, a week of coding, Battle of the Bluebonnets, March Book Madness, research, research, research, and books. Lots of books! Lots of reading!
MakerMadness
I loved MakerSpace. It gets loud, crazy and hectic. But the conversations between the kids and learning that takes place from those discussions is incredible.
Just being silly
They love the window seats and usually will read there. They were trying for a world record...
Fifth Grade Teachers
Ms. Lambert's 5th grade class took ownership of the learning and teaching Coding Mice, Dot and Dash, Osmo Coding and Sphero's to the kinder friends!
Summer Reading and Activities
We have all kinds of ebooks and activities on the "Red Star" page (our library webpage). I've given the kids a #bookaday reading challenge. They read a book a day and keep a record of their reading. I'm going to post videos of the books I have read or books to recommend....I am doing the challenge with them! All the information you need is on our webpage. I've shared the information with all of them. Check out the HOME tab as well as SUMMER READING FUN for reading programs in the area, our ebooks and online activities.
Go to:
reagan.leanderisd.org and choose Library on the left hand side. I can't publish the passwords, but be looking for an email from your child's teacher with that information!
Happy Summer reading, Rays!
Rouse High School and Steiner Ranch Elementary will have summer library hours, as well! Check out the information in the link below!
Proudest Accomplishment for me this year!
Come on in!
I was a super shy kid and I have so much empathy for those that are. I have worked for TWO years to get kids to come into the library in the morning before school. From 7:15-7:35, I have anywhere from 20-40 kids come in the library to read, finish homework, visit with their friends or do a makerspace activity. I started putting games and activities on shelves for the kids to use...no asking required. We had to set up our systems and agree on guidelines. And they just trickled in. It makes this shy mama's heart happy to see them having a quiet, safe place to start their day. They all have different needs and I try to honor those needs. It has been work and sometimes they make me nuts, but they are getting a good start to their day and they know they are loved and welcomed.
Comfy place to go
I saw this by accident and couldn't help but want to go sit with her and read! She even took her shoes off!
Monday Morning Maker
It was raining like crazy...thunder and lightning. But they didn't notice at all!
Total focus
He asked if it was ok to just read a book.
Digital Learning
I continued to try and integrate technology where I could! I have become very passionate and rabid about teaching these kids digital citizenship, responsibility and safety! We used so many different apps, programs, searching techniques, research, research, research, coding, keyboarding, and just learning to log in and what to do when the wifi decides to quit. All the while remembering a clean digital footprint. It will continue to be a huge push for me next year as well.
My goal for the library
I haven't made it a secret that I am retiring soon, but my hope and ambition is to get this sweet furniture for my rays!
Kinder and Lego Learn to Build
Oh my gosh! This is the best thing ever! They loved exploring, inventing and using their imaginations to build!
Battle of the Bluebonnets
They said they didn't care if they didn't win...but let me tell you! They knew they were in fourth place out of 26 teams! Loved reading and competing with this group of kids!
Our Granddaughter
No way was I leaving this one out! Amelia Grace, our first grandchild, will be born in June. She is off to a great literary start! We can not wait!
DC Cornish
This guy was fantastic and told ancient stories in a very modern way!
Monster Madness
StoryBook Pumpkin Patch
We had over 200 entries this year! It was great and I love all the creative pumpkins that came in! And as a bonus, this year we didn't have any EXPLODING PUMPKINS!
