Enrichment April News

The best part of your child's day!

Jennifer Ashmore, Art Teacher

In ART class we have been learning about a different artist every month of this school year. The last artist we learned about was Wassily Kandinsky. We are still finishing up artwork in the style of Kandinsky. We will then begin working on the Art Element of Form. We will be making pinch pots out of air dry clay. The children are always so EXCITED to be able to work with clay. It is one of my favorite things to do as well.

Cristen Dimas, Music Teacher

Let’s make some music! In MUSIC class, Challenger musicians practice and develop rhythmic skills, melodic skills and listening skills in age-appropriate, FUN ways. We make and experience music together using singing voices, instruments, movement, children’s books, and games. And we READ music, using visual representation and music notation. Every time students come to class, we: Sing, Move, Play, Listen (like musicians do), and Create!

In April, we celebrate the Spring! Your student may come home singing songs or reciting rhymes about rain, flowers, or bunnies!

The 4th Grade Music Showcase is on Tuesday April 12! Here's some info about that for 4th graders and their families:

Who- ALL of fourth grade!

What- A performance of vocal and instrumental music we have learned in music class this year. (Students can practice at home with the modules on Canvas in Mrs. Dimas’s “Dimas-Music-04” class!)

When- Tuesday April 12th, 6:00pm. Doors open and students report at 5:30.

Bridget Hodge, PE Teacher

This month students are asked to bring a photo of themselves being active in our community. The photos will be displayed on our PE bulletin board. Also, students will be spending more of PE class time outdoors. Students are welcome to bring water bottles, hats, extra clothes, or sunglasses to make themselves more comfortable during PE.

Be on the lookout for Field Day information. Field Day is the culminating physical education event and it will take place on Friday, April 22. Students will be celebrating the skills they have learned through physical education class. We recommend that all students bring a labeled water bottle and wear tennis shoes, sunscreen, comfortable clothes, and a hat. A letter will be sent home soon with a request for volunteers. Volunteer space is limited and volunteers will be accepted in the order in which they are received by Ms. Hodge.
