The push factor is what caused or forced people to go. The pull factor is what drew people to a specific place.
Push Factor- The land cost to much were you are right now,It's to crowded,and you Need a Job
Pull Factor- there is great Land,there is a lot of gold, and you can have what ever religion you want to have.
Job Opportunities
Different types of jobs you can have are Farming, Ranching, Mining, Cattle Ranching, Building railroads, and Fur trading.
Territories Available
Louisiana purchase gave U.S. full access to the Mississippi river and part of New Orleans. It was bought by Thomas Jefferson in 1803.
The Oregon Territory makes up the pacific northwest, the U.S. and England both claimed Oregon.
Gadsden Purchase is a area below the Mexican cession.The U.S. needed this area to build the southern transcontinental railroad.
Florida/ Spanish cession was purchased by James Monroe in 1819. Purchased after General Andrew Jackson invaded Florida. The U.S. gives up it's claim to the Texas territory.
Texas Annexation was an independent country for 10 years. Annexed in 1845(28th state), Annexation of Texas led to the U.S. - Mexico war.

Mexican Cession
The Mexican Cession was acquired by the U.S. when the U.S. won the Mexican-American war The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the conflict.

The Gadsden Purchase is an area below the Mexican cession. The U.S. needed this area to build the southern transcontinental railroad. Since there is a railroad there is great transportation.

The Oregon territory makes up the pacific northwest.The U.S. and England both claimed Oregon. If you move there you also get to have a cool slogan."Fifty-four forty or fight!" It has a lot of great land and jobs.
Geography and Resources
The lands of the Midwest like Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota attracted farmers, miners, and lumberers looking for natural resources. Farmers were attracted to the lush, fertile, soils that helped a lot of different grain, fresh produce, and fruits. Miners looked for copper, iron, silver and gold in the mines of northern Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Lumberers gathered the great hardwood and pine forests of the Midwest making world class oak, and white pine. Americans headed west soon after finding out all of the possibility of these new lands.
How You Can Move West
Some different ways they could move out west were by wagon on the Oregon trail,but before the wagons were discovered they would go on horse or on foot. The Mormon trail was the trail mormons took. The Santa Fe trail was established in 1821and was a important commercial highway.
How to Become a State
If the territory wanted to become a state they had to 60,000 people had to live in the territory. Congress has choose a governor, secretary, and 3 judges for the territory. 5,000 men had to move into the territory and had to elect a legislature and nonvoting delegates to congress.
