November 2023 (Where the Arts Come Alive)
Message from the Principal: Attitude of Gratitude
One of my favorite classes in college was Positive Psychology; the study of well being and and how we achieve our happiest selves. One of the things we learned is that our brains tend to think negatively, so it is important to STOP and recognize the positive in life. When we do this, we improve our brain chemistry and boost our health. On October 3, 1789, George Washington issued a proclamation to make Thursday, Nov. 26th a National Day of Thanks. I am not sure what he had in mind, but I know that since then, the month of November has evolved to become a month of family, friends, and gratitude. It has become a time when we STOP, acknowledge the good in our lives, give thanks, and focus on the postive.
This month, I encourage us all to pause and focus on the positive. Take time to reflect on the people, experiences, and things we have in our lives for which we are grateful. For me, I am grateful for my supportive family and hilarious friends. I am grateful to be part of such a vibrant Holladay community, filled with joyful students, supportive families, caring staff, and dedicated teachers.
Our community provides a constant boost of positivity.
Love,
Principal Humphries

Thank you, PTO!
Our Fall Fest had face painting, sack races, games, dancing, a cake walk, costume contest, and so much more. We had over 300 people attend the event and it was filled with smiles and laughter all around. We are grateful to everyone who donated their time, talent, or treasure to make this FUNdraiser possible. Special thanks to the members of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), a group of committed and creative parents, guardians, and staff.
Welcome to Holladay
Meet Savannah Shoemaker, M.S. CF-SLP (New speech teacher!)
I’m so excited to begin working with the amazing students of Holladay! I received my undergraduate degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona, and my master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Teachers College, Columbia University. I love using creativity to make speech services fun and dynamic! In my free time, I love to cook and bake, explore Tucson, and spend time with my cat and hamster.
Meet Elizabeth Gómez, Resource Teacher!
I am very excited to join the Holladay family!I have been an exceptional education teacher for over 20 years in the Sunnyside and Tucson Unified School Districts. I am originally from Yuma, Arizona but have been a Tucsonan since 1995. I am a proud graduate of the University of Arizona.
I am dedicated to helping students reach their potential and teaching them to advocate for themselves. I am looking forward to working with all of you this school year and hope that we can truly build a community in which our students can thrive.
