Did you know?
1. Your child gets some playtime with friends before the school day starts
2. Your child is automatically on time to school (this is really important to us!)
Reading - All of our students (4K through 5th grade) should be reading every night. All students need 30 minutes of reading every night. For our youngest learners, that could be a combination of looking at books, reading with family members, or listening to audiobooks. For older learners (2nd grade and above), 30 minutes of independent reading time is everyone's most important homework. Practicing sight words is also an essential skill.
Math - Practicing math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) is great. Fact fluency (knowing facts really fast) and knowing your "doubles" really helps. Get some flash cards, make some flash cards, or ask your child's teacher for help. Please see this document for more information about math work at home.
Family time - Play a board game and talk together. Playing Yahtzee develops a math skill we call subitizing (instantly recognizing quantities such as dot patterns on dice). Playing Clue develops a literary skill called inferring (being able to make predictions). Playing a game like Candy Land or Sorry develops 1-to-1 correspondence (counting and pointing to one space at a time).
