A Message From the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
East Bradford Outdoor Garden
Writer’s Day
Our children had an opportunity to celebrate, write, and learn from our featured author and WCASD’s own Jennifer Melek Ozgur. Not only is Jennifer Melek Ozgur an accomplished author, but also an English teacher at Byron Rustin High School. We would also like to thank our two storytellers, Bill Woods and Kate Walton, for conducting our two morning assemblies.
As the accompanying pictures reveal, our students had a blast learning about writing. I would like to extend a special thank you to our PTO, Mrs. Eileen Hutchinson, our Reading Team and all volunteers for making this day special for our students. We are fortunate that many of our students love to write. Thank you to our parents for helping us sustain this momentum!Variety Show
Thank you all that helped out with this year’s variety show. A special thanks, to Mr. & Mrs. O’Connell for organizing the show for the third year in a row. I love the variety show because it gives our students a supportive, non-judgemental platform to express their talents. Furthermore, I think it takes a tremendous amount of courage for 5-11 year olds to perform in front of over 400 people. As their principal, I am beyond proud of them! Let’s Go Cougars!
PSSA
Yes, it’s that time of year again. PSSA's are in just two weeks. Although they have been reduced in content and length, they still present a reasonable challenge to students. However, there are minor adjustments that we can make to increase our children’s success. They are as follows:
·Get a good night’s sleep. Ideally be in bed by 9:00pm.
· Eat a healthy breakfast every morning before testing.
· Do not bring toys or other non-educational/non-essential objects to school on testing days. This includes fit bit, cell phones and other electronic devices.
· Please make sure that children arrive to school on time, so that they can start the test with their classmates. This is important because students generally feel more comfortable taking assessments in a familiar location. Students arriving late may have to take the test in an alternative location.
· Encourage children to remain calm, confident, and worry-free. We try to lighten the mood and make it as stress-free as possible, hence that funny looking guy on those Bruno Mars spiffs.
The PSSA window for the State Assessments is as follows:
Testing Days and Subjects
English Language Arts: Grade Level 3, 4, 5 April 24th – 26th
Math - Grade Level 3, 4, 5 April 30th -May 1st
Science - Grade Level 4 Only May 2nd -3rd
Dismissal Procedures
Over the last two weeks we have had a significant increase in the number of early dismissal and transportation changes, so we wanted to send out another reminder about dismissal and early pick-up guidelines. While we can fully appreciate the toils of trying to navigate a busy schedule, we feel that it is imperative that we follow guidelines to assure student safety. Thank you for observing these few, simple guidelines:
- Please be sure to submit any dismissal changes to the office prior to 12pm.
- Call the office, or Email the teacher and copy the office tmbaxter@wcasd.net and agarber@wcasd.net , or
- Send in a note to your student’s teacher, once reviewed it gets sent to the office to confirm.
- Please notify the office the DAY OF the change, so we can update the Dismissal List that gets emailed out to staff.
